Things You Will Need

  • Hollow Wall Anchors(Zinc-Plated Self-Tapping)
  • Metal Tape Measure
  • Torpedo Level
  • French Cleats
  • Power Drill
  • Wood Screws
  • Screwdriver Bit

Steps For This Project

  • First of all, you have to lay your headboard face-down on the floor. Simply choose two to three locations at the top of the headboard along with the wooden frame in order to install one side of the metal french cleats. Slenderly mark the back of the headboard at your installation locations.
  • The next thing is to measure from the top edge of the headboard to your installation points just to be sure that you have an equal distance between the top of the french cleats and also the top edge of the headboard. Now you need to use a torpedo level to be sure that each metal french cleat is level on the back of your headboard.
  • Now you need to mark your french cleat's mounting holes on the back of the headboard. Next, you have to use a power driller machine to drive your wood screws through with the french cleat's mounting holes & into your headboard.
  • Ask 1-2 assistants to help position your headboard on your wall. Once you become satisfied with your headboard position, lightly trace the outline of the headboard onto your wall. Place your headboard back onto your floor.
  • Next you need to transfer the headboard's french cleat locations onto your wall. To do this, you just need to use your metal tape measure to regulate where your every french cleat installs on the back of your headboard. Simply draw a line on your wall gently where the bottom of your headboard french cleat will rest.
  • Next, you will have to place the other half of your every french cleat against the wall down the line which is representing the bottom of your headboard cleat. Now you need to use your torpedo level in order to level your every french cleat and then you also have to mark their mounting holes on the wall.
  • Now you have to attach the screwdriver bit to the end of your power drill and then you have to simply place a hollow-wall anchor(zinc-plated self-tapping) on the top of your screwdriver bit.
  • Then you just simply need to drive your zinc-plated self-tapping anchor into the wall at each mounting hole marked on your wall. The self-tapping anchor design lets you install them through with your wallboard as well as wooden studs.
  • Now simply line up the french cleat's mounting holes with the help of the screw holes in the zinc-plated self-tapping anchors.
  • The next thing is to use all the screws that came with your self-tapping anchors to secure your french cleats to the wall.
  • Finally ask your friend to help lift your headboard and will lower it onto the other half of the french cleats. Next, you need to use the headboard outline which you've drawn on the wall to help line up your french cleats.
