5 Easy Steps To Restore Hardwood Floors Under Carpet

If the users are looking to restore their hardwood floors once they have removed their carpet, they can do so very easily. In order to restore wood floor under carpet, follow the below given steps carefully and achieve the desired result of performing this task.
  1. Check For Hardwood: In this step the user needs to check the hardwood floor, for that the user needs to grab one corner of the carpet and lift it up and check what's underneath. In case the foam under the carpet does not lift easily then use the fingers to lift it. In this step, the user needs to be aware of the spikes that are around the edges of the carpet.
  2. Remove Carpet And Padding: Here the user needs to mark the affected area and make the cuts straight. Then with the help of the razor cut the marked area of carpet and padding as well, pull it up and discard. One of the important thing here to do is that there will be spikes and staples after removing the carpet and padding. Use the pliers to remove the staples and for the spike strip use the crowbar or the nail remover to pop it off.
  3. Install Edging: Once the affected area is cleaned off, then its important to secure the remaining carpet edges so that the animal doesn't go under the carpet and no one trips on it. For that user needs to buy the spikes and the edging. The spikes will help to grab the carpet and prevent it from sliding. Edging folds the carpet, so it doesn't come loose by pinning it to the spikes. To install the spikes lift one of the edges of the carpet and carefully slide the strip under it but the spikes must be facing up. In order to secure the strip under the edge of the carpet to the wood floor apply few short screws.
  4. Sanding: After the above step is completed now its time to sand the affected hardwood floor, in case the hardwood floor is painted then it may require a little bit hard sanding with the vibrating sander. In case it's not painted then it requires less sanding.
  5. Stain: After the sanding step is done then before moving to the next step, it's important to clean the area with the cloth so that all sanding dust is removed and finish will adhere strongly. Buy the sealer or stainer of your choice and then apply with the foam brush and let it dry completely after that apply the second coat for the nice shine and durability.
