How To Repair Tear In Couch Fabric?
Wear and Tear is a common factor affecting fabric couch and in order to repair a tear in couch fabric, the user needs to follow the below-given steps:
- Assess The Damage:
The first step will be to assess the damage on the couch fabric. In Case of a small & thin tear in which no fabric is missing, the repair process of such damage is very simple. Whereas, if the tear in a fabric is substantial and some of the fabric from the torn area is missing, then the user will need to repair it with patching method. - Repairing Small & Thin Tears:
The user can repair the small & thin tears in the fabric by sewing. If the tear is in the cushion, the user needs to remove the fabric by sliding it out and then turning it inside out followed by sewing the fabric from inside. In case, the fabric is attached to the couch, the user needs to start the needle underneath the tear and sew across the other side of the fabric in order to close down the gap of the tear. The user needs to sew the tear in a way so that the closing knot of the tear is stitched inside. Alternate to sewing, the user can also attach a patch over the tear with the help of glue. - Repairing Large Tears:
In order to fix large tears in which some of the fabric is missing, patching is the best option for which the user requires a fabric patch similar to the couch. In case, the user is unable to find a similar fabric patch, then repairing a tear with another patch is not worth repairing as the patch can show up more than the tear. It has been recommended by the experts to take a fabric piece from the hidden area of the couch for the purpose of patching and the recommended places are the areas covered by cushions or dust ruffle. In the patching method, the user needs to glue the similar fabric piece on top of the tear and wait till the glue dries. Excess glue has to be removed from the patch while the glue is still wet.
