The steps to repair the bonded leather sofa peeling are as follows:
- Cut The Portion: First of all cut the portion that has been peeled or lifted from the underlying cushion or foam. To lift it grooming scissors works best for this purpose, after that clean the area with a wet lint-free cloth but please don't oversaturate the upholstery.
- Backing Fabric: Now hold the piece of the backing fabric or thin upholstery batting over the affected area, now simply draw a line over the fabric but 1/8 inch larger than the affected spot.
- Vinyl Adhesive: After that apply the thin layer of the vinyl adhesive to the backing fabric, all over the fabric and under the edges of the bonded leather, then allow it to dry completely.
- Color Compound: Now apply the thin layer of the color compound on the vinyl adhesive fixed on the upholstery, so that the exposed edges of the bonded leather will be sealed.
- Grain Paper: The next step is to press the grain paper on the wet compound and tape it in a place, let it dry completely then carefully remove the paper. Gently blend the patches with 320 grit sandpaper.
