Procedure To Remove/Strip Paint From Wood Without Chemicals
Using chemicals to strip or remove the paint from the wood surface cannot only harm the surface but comes with various health hazards too. Hence, it is always better to use the paint removal procedure that does not involve chemical cleaning.
The procedure to remove the paint from the wood without chemicals is mentioned below:
Sanding
- Belt Sander: Use a belt sander that should have 80-grit sandpaper, then firmly place the sander against the surface, then carefully sand the surface.
- Grains: Sand in the direction of the grains, and avoid sanding the same place for a long time, that can result in the dipping of wood.
- Remaining Paint: Use the edge sander or sander sponge to remove the remaining paint, once all the paint is removed, then use a fine sand paper of about 120 grit paper, that will prepare the surface for the new paint or any finish.
Pressure Washer
- Step 1: First of all connect the water hose, after that connect the pressure washer to the power source.
- Step 2: Keep the distance of about 10 to 12 inches, between the surface and the nozzle of pressure washer.
- Step 3: Then work across the surface of the wood, angling in a way that the ld paint should be removed.
- Step 4: For the tougher stains slightly increase the pressure.
- Step 5: If the sprayer would not remove any paint than use the sander.
Heat Gun
- Step 1: Put the heat gun on the medium setting and start, keep the distance of about 8 to 10 inches betwen the heat gun and the surface, work on the small areas for about 10 to 15 seconds. The time paint startd to buble then remove the heat gun, and quickly remove the melted paint away with the scraper.
- Step 2: Once the paint is removed than sand the surface to make it smooth.
