10 Easy Steps Of Maintaining Outdoor Teak Furniture

If you have a piece of teak furniture that doesn't look good and you want to clean and maintain it, you can do so easily. Maintaining outdoor teak furniture will also enhance its lifespan. To maintain teak furniture, follow all the steps carefully and achieve the desired result:
  1. First of all, you need to dust infrequently if you enjoy your natural color. There is no harm done on the furniture if you let your furniture fade to a light brown, and ultimately to an aged silver color.
  2. If you enjoy the appearance and the low maintenance, just dust the teak furniture repeatedly and then wash it infrequently if any dirt or the moss builds up. During the introductory weathering, the teak furniture will look uneven in color or marginally cracked. This should even out over a period of time.
  3. Clean your teak furniture, if you like to restore its color. You may need to scrub the teak furniture with a soft-bristled brush and with warm soapy water to briefly restore a slenderly brighter color. Avert the hard bristles or high-pressure hoses, which can damage your teak.
  4. Use your teak cleaner for more significant cleaning. A functional cleaning product, known as teak cleaner, can be used if you see that the soap & water is not enough to remove strong dirt or brighten your furniture's color. There are 2 major types of teak cleaner available.
  5. One part of your teak cleaner is safe and easy to apply on the teak furniture. Scrub this cleaner with your soft-bristled brush, for at least 15 minutes. Slowly rinse it with clean water by using an abrasive cleaning pad or bronze wool to open up the pores of your wood and then remove the applied cleaner. Avert steel wool which can discolor your teak.
  6. Second part of teak cleaners are harsher on your teak furniture, lifespan & also on its texture, but it will operate faster and may also dissolve any tough grime. Apply the first part of a teak cleaner, an acid, and you have to wait according to the guidance on the packaging. Scrub in the 2nd part, which will neutralize the acid and make sure to cover your furniture thoroughly.
  7. Apply a clear defensive coat to avert any damage. If the teak furniture is densely used or kept in an area with energetic activity, you also want to protect it from any stains in advance. A clear and defensive sealant can be easily applied anytime your teak is dry to form a hard layer over your teak furniture surface.
  8. Contemplate covering your teak furniture when not in use. One of your teak's attractiveness is its extreme durability, which makes the protection consistently gratuitous. However, the porous cover such as the canvas may make your cleaning process easier. Never use the plastic or vinyl cover, which will trap moisture on your teak furniture.
  9. Moderately sand off the stains. Some types of stains like red wine or coffee may be challenging to remove by washing. Remove the top layer of wood alternatively with the help of medium-grain sandpaper and then create a smooth surface with the help of fine-grain sandpaper when the stain is gone.
  10. This will likely brighten your furniture's presentation where sanded, as the interior of your teak furniture still contains natural oils.
