How To Install Closet Door Guide On Carpet Over Concrete: Easy Process Of Installing Closet Sliding Doors On Carpeting

Easy Process Of Installing Closet Sliding Doors On Carpeting On A Concrete

Wider openings than a typical single door are covered by sliding closet doors, which are available in a variety of hues and materials. The two panels can move back and forth over one another utilizing a system of higher and lower tracks in all of them. Attaching the rails and moving the panels into place are both necessary steps in the installation of sliding closet doors. However, considerable preparation is necessary if the flooring is made of concrete and carpet.

Thing's You Will Need

  • Tape Measure & Marker
  • 2, 2-By-4-Inch Wooden Boards The Width Of The Door Opening
  • Hacksaw With Metal Cutting Blade
  • Step Stool, Power Drill, & Utility Knife
  • 3/8- To 5/8-Inch Thick Wooden Board
  • Safety Glasses & 1/4-Inch Masonry Drill Bit

Step 1: Measure The Bottom Of The Door Opening

  • Get on your knees and use a tape measure to measure the door opening's bottom. Locate the top and bottom sliding door kit tracks and place them on the ground. Determine where each track has to be cut to suit the door by measuring each one. Put a marker there to indicate those spots.
  • To prevent bending the track during cutting, place a 2-by-4-inch wooden board into both the front and back grooves. Use a hacksaw and a metal-cutting blade to sever each marking line. Discard the track segments you don't require.

Step 2: Hold The Upper Track Against The Ceiling Or Upper Doorjamb

  • Hold the upper track three-sixteenths of an inch from the front while standing on a step stool and holding it against the ceiling or upper doorjamb. Using a power drill, attach it by driving the supplied screws into each screw hole.
  • Place the bottom track across the width of the doorframe. Pull the utility knife blade along both sides, firmly holding it in place, and the carpet and carpet padding will be cut through. By removing the track and grabbing the carpet and padding strips, the concrete flooring can be seen.

Step 3: Measure The Width And The Length Of The Bare Floor Opening

  • Add one-sixteenth inch to the width after measuring the width and length of the opening in the bare floor. Using the hacksaw, cut a piece of three- to five-eighths-inch thick board to the same measurements.
  • Reposition the lower track 1 1/8 inches away from the front of the closet doorjamb and set it in place on the concrete. Use the marker to mark each screw hole on the concrete by drawing a dot inside of it. Discard the track.

Step 4: Insert A One-quarter Inch Masonry Bit Into A Drill

  • Put on safety glasses and attach a drill bit with a 1/4-inch masonry shank. Drill holes in each screw site that are 1 inch deep.
  • With the lower track in place once more, use a power drill to place a masonry screw into each of the holes.

Step 5: Attach Door Handles Or Hardware, If Needed

  • One door panel should be picked up with the finished side facing you. Push the lower rollers into the rear groove on the bottom track after tilting the upper rollers into the groove on one side of the aperture. Install the second panel in the track's front grooves by repeating the previous steps.
  • If necessary, fasten door handles or other hardware. Some sliding doors come with pre-assembled built-in knobs.
