How To Install Chair Rail Without A Nail Gun: Installation Process Of Chair Rail Without A Nail Gun

Installation Process Of Chair Rail Without A Nail Gun

A horizontal molding piece that is put along the wall at around chair height is known as a chair rail. Chair rails can provide a beautiful element to a room in addition to serving the practical purpose of preventing chairs from scratching or damaging walls. Chair rails are not structural and cannot hold the weight of a chair, it is vital to remember this. They serve only as decoration. Chair rail installation projects, for example, always include using a nail gun. For this kind of work, absolute perfection in aesthetics is required. Additionally, using a nail gun is necessary for this interesting project. However, you should be able to install a chair rail without a nail gun in emergency situations. Without a few essential items, the installation process won't be complete. If you don't make adequate rough calculations before starting this firm, you can hardly reduce the cost. One more thing: Before beginning the installation process, remember to follow safety precautions. Don't worry if you don't have a nail gun. Even without one, you can still build a chair rail.

Tools Needed

  • Tape Measure, Level & Chalk Line
  • Miter Saw, Crowbar & Hammer
  • Finishing Nails & Wood Filler
  • Paint Or Stain
  • 1×4 Chair Rail Molding

Step 1: Measure And Mark The Wall

The wall where the chair rail will be installed must first be measured and marked. After measuring the wall's length with a tape measure, mark a straight line with chalk along the wall.

Step 2: Cut The Chair Rail Molding

The chair rail molding must then be trimmed to size. The molding should be placed against the wall with one end touching the chalk line. The molding should next be cut at a 45-degree angle using a miter saw.

Step 3: Remove The Baseboard

It is now time to take the baseboard off. To remove the baseboard from the wall, use a crowbar. Wear gloves to protect your hands and take care not to damage the wall.

Step 4: Install The Chair Rail Molding

Now that the baseboard has been taken off, you may put in the chair rail molding. Hold the molding against the wall at first so that the chalk line is touched by the angled end. Next, push finishing nails into the molding using a hammer.

Step 5: Fill The Nail Holes & Paint Or Stain The Molding

You must use wood filler to cover the nail holes after the molding has been placed. Sand the filler smooth after letting it entirely dry. The molding can then be stained or painted to fit your décor. Make careful to use a primer before painting the molding. That completes the process of installing a chair rail without the use of a nail gun.

Safety Measures To Be Taken While Installing Chair Rail

Even though chair rail molding is rather simple to install, you should still exercise some caution.
  • First, always protect your eyes. To prevent breathing in the wood dust created while cutting the molding, use a dust mask.
  • Second, use power tools with caution. Always heed the safety precautions and instructions provided by the manufacturer.
  • Third, to prevent costly errors, make sure you measure twice and cut once.
  • Finally, to ensure a polished installation, always use a level when installing chair rail molding.
