Steps To Fix A Sagging Sofa/Couch Cushions
Sofa gets older with time and the cushions start to sag. The customer can fix and repair the sagging into the sofa and make the sofa new again to use. The steps are mentioned below to fix a sagging sofa:
Step 1: Inspecting The Couch
- Determine the reason due to which the sofa is sagging. The reason could be the damaged cushions, bad frame, and old springs.
- Check the frame of the sofa by removing the cushions from the sofa and look for the broken wood.
- Determine the type of spring that is zigzag or coiled springs available in the sofa. Older sofas consist of coiled springs and new sofas consist of zigzag springs. Check whether the springs are broken or bent.
Step 2: Filling The Cushions
- Touch the sofa cushions and check the softness of the cushions. If the cushions are soft then more filling is required.
- Check the foam and batting. Batting gives a smooth appearance to the cushions.
- Determine what is to be replaced foam or batting and put the new foam or batting on the sofa cushion.
- Take batting and cut it according to the size of the seat and cover the cushions with a thick layer of batting sheet and smooth it.
- After repairing the cushion, place the cushion back in cover.
Step 3: Fixing The Frame
- Check the wooden frame of the sofa. If the frame is broken then purchase new boards according to the requirement and use the wood glue to attach the edges.
- Then next step is to fix the springs. If the springs are bent then use pliers and fix the bent springs.
- If the frame of the sofa is cracked, the customer can disassemble the sofa and replace the cracked wood.
- Then attach new wood and use a hammer, staple gun, and nails to replace and secure the frame. Then attach spring clips to the newly attached wood.
- The Last step is to place the upholstery and fabric back on the sofa and attach upholstery with the bottom of the frame.
