2 Easy Methods To Clean The Brick Fireplace

Fireplace is one of the great addition to your house which will make you house light the fire that is mostly useful during cold nights. Fireplace is constructed of bricks which mostly gets dirty by the smoke of the first, so it needs to be cleaned at least once in a year. Fortunately, cleaning fireplace bricks is a very easy task to perform, be it a cleaning product or household items.

Method 1: Using Cleaning Products

  1. Vacuum: Use the vacuum cleaner, that has soft brush attachment, to clean the brick fireplace. Using the brush attachment the user should vacuum all areas of bricks. Try to Vacuum all loose dust, debris, and soot, so that it will help clean the bricks easily later.
  2. Dishwashing Detergent: Once the above step is done then the user needs to scrub the fireplace using the dishwashing detergent so that the light stains are removed. In a spray bottle Combine atleast 120 ml of dish detergent with 950 ml of water in a spray bottle and shake it well. Then, spray the solution onto the bricks and at the same time scrub the area with differently sized scrub brushes. After the scrubing is done than rinse it well with warm water after that dry it with a clean, dry cloth. The dish detergent is the quickest and easiest cleaning method for fireplace bricks, so the user should try this method first incase the bricks don’t look too bad.
  3. Go With Borax: In order to clean and disinfect fireplace bricks at the same time than go for borax. For the solution mix 2 tablespoons of borax with 4 cups of hot water and add 1 tablespoon of dish soap in a spray bottle after that shake it well then spray it onto the bricks. Scrub with brush in a circular motion, then use a clean damp cloth to wipe away the grime.
  4. Use Trisodium Phosphate (TSP): Incase of the toughest stains and grease than use TSP, make the solution mixing the 30 ml of TSP with 1 gallon 3.8 L of hot water in a tall bucket. Then again dip the brush into the solution as mentioned above and scrub the bricks clean. Atlast, rinse off the bricks using warm water. It is highly advisable to use the TSP if dish soap and water doesn’t work.

Method 2: Cleaning With Ordinary Household Items

  1. Baking Soda And Soap: It is one of the convenient cleaning method. Simply Combine about 2 to 3 tablespoons of dish soap with (5 ounces) of baking soda to form a paste. Then, dip the scrub brush in the paste and apply it to scrub the fireplace bricks in a small and circular motions. After the scrubing is done then let the paste sit on the bricks for almost 5 minutes, after that rinse it off using warm water.
  2. Vinegar And Water: Try this method incase the brick fireplace are not too old. To try this mix equal parts of vinegar and warm water in a spray bottle and shake the bottle well and then simply spray the solution on the bricks. After a few minutes spray the bricks again, and then scrub them in a circular motion with a brush. Once done rinse the bricks with warm water.
  3. Bathroom Cleaner: The other option is to use the bathroom cleaner over the oven cleaner. Sometimes people had success cleaning the fireplace bricks using a bathroom cleaning spray or oven cleaner. Spray the oven cleaner onto the bricks and let it sit on the area for 20-30 minutes after that scrub the bricks well with the brush using a sponge that should be dipped in water to wipe off any left over.
