Steps To Cane Chair Seats
The things that are required for caning the chair includes scissors, awl, white glue, bath towel, tack hammer, water bucket, work table, trapezoidal shape chair, caning pegs, etc. The user removes the old cane strands from the chair with the help of scissors. Then the diameter of the drilled holes is checked. Now the user can start caning the chair and steps are given below:
- Step 1: The first step is to remove the strands from the coil and soak into the warm water for 10 minutes. Now take a peg and mark center in the front and back of the seat. Put one end of the strand into the center of the back hole and insert another end of the strand into the front hole. Likewise, insert strands vertically hole to hole into the frame without the corner holes.
- Step 2: Now the next step is to insert the strands horizontally into the holes and left the 4 corner holes.
- Step 3: Insert second layer of cane strands vertically from front end to back end.
- Step 4: Insert another layer of cane strands horizontally from front end to back end.
- Step 5: Now start inserting the cane strand diagonally in left-front corner.
- Step 6: Next step is to insert cane strand diagonally in the lower right corner.
- Step 7: The last step is to apply cane binder to give a finished look to the chair seat.
Steps To Repair A Cane Back
The material required for repairing the cane back includes wood glue, clean rag, hammer, razor utility knife, blunt edge chisel, etc. The steps are mentioned below:
- Step 1: First step is to remove the existing cane.
- Step 2: Next step is to clean the grooves and check the edges for sanding.
- Step 3: Allow the pre woven cane to soak for 30 minutes.
- Step 4: Then put the piece of pre woven cane in the opening frame of the chair which is to be repaired.
- Step 5: Now fix the cane properly into the grooves.
- Step 6: The last step is to attach the front edge of the chair with sides properly.
