7 Easy Steps To Restore The Finish On Kitchen Cabinets

The users can easily restore the finish on kitchen cabinets by following the below-mentioned steps:
  1. Gather All The Materials And Tools: The users need to start by gathering all the materials and tools that they require while performing this procedure like Screwdriver, Stir stick, Small can, Stain, Mineral spirits, Varnish paintbrush, Clean rag, Touch-up pen, and tack cloth as well.
  2. Detach The Hardware: Once the users have collected all the material then they need to start detaching the metal hardware like knobs and screws by using the screwdriver or an electric drill in order to detach the cabinet doors. Then they need to place the cabinet doors on a flat surface and place the nuts and screws in a bowl so as to use them again in future.
  3. Clean Up The Surface: The users then need to clean up all the oil residue and grease from the surface of the kitchen cabinets by using the mineral spirit and a soft rag. Pour few drops of the mineral spirit over a soft rag and then rub the damp rag over the entire surface of the kitchen cabinets. The users need to keep on using the soft damp rag till the kitchen cabinets are completely cleaned.
  4. Use The Sandpaper: Once the cabinets are cleaned the users then need to use the fine-grit sandpaper and rub it gently over the surface of the kitchen cabinets in order to create a smooth finish. Then use the soft tack cloth to wipe away all the dust and the debris particles from the cabinet surface. The users can also use the mineral spirit in cleaning up the dust particles that are caused because of the sanding process.
  5. Use The Touch-up Pen: The users then need to touch up their kitchen cabinets before painting and then use the touch-up pen of the same wood color and rub it over those areas of the cabinets that lacks in color. Then allow it to get dry for almost 20 minutes.
  6. Apply The Stain: Before applying the stain the users need to stir the paint can with a stir stick so that it does not form any pigments and bubbles. Then they need to start applying the paint over the molded areas of the cabinet and then to the other areas of kitchen cabinets by using the varnish paintbrush. The users are advised to apply the paint in the smooth even strokes and then allow the paint to get dried off completely from the cabinet surfaces.
  7. Re-attach The Doors: Once the paint is dried the users then need to re-affix the doors to the cabinets by using the pre-existing knobs, hinges and screws as well.
