Steps

Here are the steps to fix the heat burn stains of your wooden dining table:
  1. Test: First you need to test the finish of your dining room table in order to find out what kind of finish it has. Most dining room wooden tables have a lacquer finish, but some dining table has polyurethane, which requires different planning. Dab an unobtrusive place on a leg or underside of the dining table with the help of a cotton swab soaked in lacquer thinner & touch the finish while it's still wet. If you see that it's sticky then it is a lacquer finish if not then its polyurethane or varnish.
  2. Remove: Your next step is to remove white heat marks from a lacquer finish with the help of a paste made with baking soda & non-gel toothpaste. Rub the paste into the finish lightly, then wipe off any excess paste with a dry cloth & check your progress. If the rings are still there, rub again to remove the ring from your table.
  3. Apply: You can also apply lemon juice & cigarette ash to remove white heat burn marks from a polyurethane type of finish from your dining table. Simply, stir all ingredients to remove white heat marks from a polyurethane finish. Stir the two ingredients into your created paste and rub on the paste by using steel wool (0000). Because the citric acid which is present in lemon juice is trenchant, this method can also remove dark surface stains from other types of wood furniture as well.
  4. Sand Off: Next, you need to sand off the finish of your dining table to bleach out dark stains in the wood. Use sandpaper(150-grit), and sand it with the grain direction of the wood. Stop your process of sanding as soon as your wood is exposed.
  5. Mix: You need to mix a waterlogged solution of crystals(oxalic acid), easily available at hardware stores, and water & dab the solution onto the stain with the help of a cotton swab. Let it soak in for 25 or 30 minutes, then wipe it off. Apply more bleach if you see that the stain is still there. Neutralize your wood by dabbing a solution of 1/2 cup of water and 1 teaspoon of baking soda, then dab with clear water.
  6. Peroxide Bleach: Simply, apply two-part of peroxide bleach if the heat burn stain doesn't come out from your dining table. Mix the peripheral altogether in a small container & immediately dab the mixture onto the stain of heat burn. Let it dry for a few hours, then neutralize it by dabbing on white vinegar and after that let the vinegar dry, then dab with clear water.
  7. Sand: Once dried fully, now sand the affected area by hand with sandpaper(220-grit), then repair the finish by using a spray can of polyurethane or lacquer. If your finish is a type of lacquer, then you have to spray a light coat, let it dry and then sand it with sandpaper( 400-grit) and spray another coat. Repeat this process several times. If the finish is polyurethane then two coats will be enough.
  8. Polish: Finally polish the tabletop with the help of furniture polish after the repairing process is complete.
