Hunter Douglas Pull Cord Repair: Two Easy Steps & Items Needed

Two Easy Steps & Items Needed To Repair Hunter Douglas Pull Cord

If you want to repair your hunter Douglas pull cord then you need to collect the mentioned items and follow all the steps afterward. Here is the list of required items and the easy steps for this process:

Things You Will Need

  • Flat-Head Screwdriver
  • HunterDouglas Cord Replacement Kit

Step 1: Remove And Disassemble The Blinds

  • First of all, you need to pull on your cord to raise your blinds to the upward direction, you can skip this step if your cord is not working properly.
  • Next you need to loosen all the tab screws which are located at the bottom of each blinds mounting bracket. These mounting brackets are the holsters your blinds ends sit in. Headrail is a piece from which your blinds hang.
  • Now you need to pry your cord lock cover & the cord lockout of your headrail with the help of a flat-head screwdriver. Cord lock cover & cord lockout pieces are located on the top outside corner of your headrail.
  • Then you need to cut your pull cords and pull them out through with your cord lock.
  • Next you have to pry open your stop ball. This stop ball is a piece of plastic that hangs at the bottom of your pull cord.
  • Simply pull out & discard the equalizer and your pull cords and then remove the cords from your blinds. How you go about removing the cords from your blinds will depend on which hunter Douglas model you have.
  • If you see that your blinds have a pocket-and-ferrule system then you need to pull your cord down from the pocket to release the ferrule, and then you need to slide your cord out.
  • If you see that your blinds have a washer system then you need to remove the end cap from your bottom rail and also remove the rails from its fabric, and finally remove the cords.

Step 2: Replace The Cord

  • In order to replace the cord, you first need to select the cord guides from your replacement kit. The two types of cord guides are available with the kit. Pick the cord that will most closely match the width of the blinds.
  • Now you need to line up the strip (thin metal filler) in the top cell of your blind fabric stack so it will flush with the end of the fabric stack of your blinds. Also, be sure that the rout holes in the strip are now lined up with the holes in your fabric stack.
  • After that, you need to press your cord guide tab through with the hole in its top cell and the metal filler strip of your top headrail cell.
  • Extend the headrail cells to verify that the filler strip and bottom cell drop free from the cord guide.
  • Next you need to measure & cut your new cord. The length of your new cord replacement depends on the model of your hunter Douglas blinds.
  • For your stop-ball A & B your honeycomb blinds then the required new cord length is equal to the height of your blinds, plus the width of your blinds and plus 24" inches.
  • If you have the block-and-tackle style type of honeycomb blinds then your new cord length should be 2 times than the shade height, plus the shade and plus 24 inches.
  • Now you need to insert your new cord replacement. Push your threading tool up through with your blinds and then you need to insert your new cord replacement through with the loop in your threading tool & then its time to pull your threading tool through with your fabric stack.
  • Simply secure your lift cord. For your blinds with washer systems, you need to thread the end of your new pull cord through with one of the washers which are already available in your replacement kit. Pull your new cord taut and then tie a triple knot.
  • For your blinds with pocket-and-ferrule systems, you need to insert the pocket into the system hole and then press it to snug against your bottom rail.
  • Simply remove your ferrule and then you need to thread it onto your new pull cord. Loop your cord around the ferrule system and then thread it through with the ferrule system and also leave a few inches of your cord projecting from the ferrule. Tighten all the loop on the ferrule and press your ferrule system into its pocket.
  • Finally you need to reassemble your blinds and then reinstall your headrail.

Warning For This Process

You need to know that the pull cords can be a choking hazard. Always keep your cords of the blinds tied up high properly so that they are out of reach of your children.
