Laminate flooring is a great secondary to wood flooring. Besides looking like wood, the laminate flooring is also not affected by the termites and they are easier to install. If you want to lay your laminate flooring in your room, then we are here for you, you just need to read and follow the 2 methods of this article. Here are the 2 easy methods to lay your laminate flooring:

Method 1: Preparing The Floor

  • First of all, you need to acclimate your laminate boards, to do this you just need to place unopened packages of your laminate flooring in your room or where you want to install it. You need to do this within 48 hours before installing the laminate boards, so the boards have enough time to adjust to the humidity & temperature and this method will minimize expansion or shrinkage when they react to room humidity and temperature.
  • Now you need to check the moisture levels of your room, moisture can frequently easily destroy a perfect laminate floor installation, before installing process of your laminate it is very important to be sure that the working area is perfectly dry.
  • Clean your floor surface of your working area where you want to install your laminate flooring. You can sweep your floor or use another method which you prefer. Make sure that your floor is entirely dry as well.
  • Next, you have to lay a barrier (moisture), lay the plastic lining on the floor of your room that will be covered with your laminate flooring. Tape your plastic lining together with the help of a moisture-resistant adhesive tape. Be sure to avert any overlapping because it can cause your floor to rise. If you are working on the concrete floor then you need to run the plastic up the walls one inch or two inches.
  • Now, its time to lay down the padding, most of padding & plastic is all in one, but if yours is not, then you need to cover the plastic lining with a floor padding (foam), this is only to avert any residue which is left on your floor like small rocks & sand from causing dimples in your flooring & to give a cushion. This will also avert any squeaking or creaking noises when people walk on your floor. Cut your foam lining to fir your floor & then tape it down but never allow your foam to overlap.

Method 2: Laying Down The Boards

  • First of all, you need to place the first laminate flooring board, simply place a laminate board at the top left corner of your working area, finished on the side up, ridge side facing your wall. Laying the laminate boards is a good idea so that the boards are parallel to the longest wall in your room.
  • Once done, now wedge a spacer betwixt the end & the edge of your laminate board & your wall. You can buy this spacer or you can easily make your own spacers.
  • You have to repeat this for your second laminate board. Place your next laminate board in the same manner, laying your board end to end, occupying the next spot along with your wall. In order to get the best results, make the entire first row of your laminate board collateral to the longest wall in your room.
  • Once finished with your first row, now you need to move on your second row of the laminate boards. Abridge the 1st piece of your laminate flooring board, so the joints of the second row will be staggered(offset) in relation to your 1st row, you need to use a wooden block in order to tap your next row of laminated boards into the 1st row.
  • Now you need to hold your block securely with your hand(left) & hit the block with a hammer in your right hand. The gap betwixt the first & second boards should be closing. Keep hammering until the gap disappears wholly.
  • Continue until your each and every row is done wholly. Be sure that the gaps betwixt the boards are properly closed. Check your laminate boards every 3rd or 4th row to make sure that they are staying correlate to your wall.
  • After following all the previous steps, you now need to trim the planks which don't fit into the leftover spaces. Once you've reached your opposite wall or have to do oddly shaped rooms, you will likely have to trim your boards. First, measure how much you need & then cut your plank with the help of a table saw.
  • Do not forget your spacers along all the edges of your room & remove them when the whole floor is done.
  • Finish the floor by placing thresholds, baseboards, or other finishing touches like staining. Holes or scuffs can be covered with special crayons.
