Vinyl Plank Flooring Vs Laminate: Comparison Between Vinyl Plank And Laminate Flooring

Comparison Between Vinyl Plank And Laminate Flooring

Both the Vinyl Plank and Laminate Flooring have their benefits. Like vinyl is 100% plastic and laminate is made from the wood. The comparison between both of them based on several factors are mentioned below:

Appearance

Vinyl: Vinyl floors usually are available in sheets with printed patterns, that are designed to look roughly like ceramic tile.
Laminate Plank Floors: Looks like the wood in appearance, they are available in the three-dimensional texture that looks like hand-scraped hardwood.

Composition

Vinyl Flooring: It is 100% synthetic material, in the standard sheets the base layer is usually made of the fiberglass and coated with a PVC vinyl. It is also called the luxury vinyl flooring (LVF), it has a much thicker core layer and is a multi-layer PVC vinyl.
Laminate Flooring: It is same in looks and installation to the luxury vinyl flooring (LVF), but the difference is that it is made from wood byproducts bonded together with melamine resins.

Water Resistance

Vinyl Plank Flooring: It is obvious winner in case of the water resistance as it is made from the materials that are 100 percent waterproof.
Laminate: The manufacturer has produced the laminate flooring that is moisture resistant not waterproof.

DIY Suitability

Laminate: It has a click-and-lock installation method, that is very easy to install and is more secure.
Vinyl: It can be difficult to install but the LVF(luxury vinyl flooring) are fairly easy to install, which is one reason for luxury vinyl's growing popularity.
