Two Easy Methods To Remove Paint From Fiberglass Tub
A fiberglass bathtub can make a beautiful addition to the bathroom as it is often resistant to dirt. The fiberglass tub is irreparable once it is damaged, that makes it the hardest materials to keep clean, but using the right treatment on the difficult stains, like paint, can be removed without ruining its surface. In order to remove paint from fiberglass bathtub, you need to use one of the two methods mentioned below:
Method 1: Using Mineral Spirits
- Start the process simply by scraping away as much as paint possible from the surface of the fiberglass with a dull scraper. Protect the hands with the help of a rubber gloves.
- Moisten a cloth using mineral spirits and then gently wipe it over the painted area of the tub.
- It is advisable to avoid applying too much firm pressure or scrubbing aggressively as this can damage the bathtub surface.
- If in case the mineral spirits will not help to remove the paint, that time it may be necessary to use the turpentine. This will help to cut through the paint but must be used in very small amounts so that it will not damage the surface.
- Once the paint is entirely removed, then wash the entire area of the fiberglass tub with the help of soap and water. Make sure that there is no residue of the paint left on the surface. Rinse using the clean water and then allow it to dry completely.
Method 2: Using Baking Soda & Vinegar
- Wet the paint stain with the help of warm water. The point is to keep the affected area moist to make sure that the paint is not allowed to dry on the surface of the fiberglass tub. Run the water all over the entire floor of the tub and then give it time to warm the fiberglass.
- Once the above step is done then sprinkle the baking soda over the affected area. Dust all floors of the tub using a coating of the baking soda. Use a heavy coating in the affected area of the stain. Making the tub wet beforehand will help the baking soda to stick to it much better. The baking soda will perform as a mild abrasive that will help to remove the set-in paint stains without affecting the surface of the tub.
- After that use vinegar, spray the affected area with the vinegar and leave it to sit for some time. Fill a spray bottle using vinegar and then simply apply it to the baking soda paste. The vinegar will help to activate the baking soda and will form a frothy layer on the fiberglass tub. Leave the mixture to sit as well as a bubble for about 5-10 more minutes. Together, both of them will remove away the paint.
- Finally the user needs to wipe away the solution. Take a washcloth or the sponge to scrub the affected area. Make sure that the vinegar or the baking soda mixture has had enough time to work on the paint stain. If required, repeat the process once more so that there are no traces of the paint stain remaining.
