Remove Scratches From Bamboo Flooring: Steps To Remove

Steps To Remove Scratches From Bamboo Flooring

Bamboo flooring is very much durable and easy to care for. Similar to any other type of flooring, scratches can develop on bamboo flooring as well. Over time, the scratches can trap dust & dirt and make the bamboo flooring look dull. In order to remove scratches from the bamboo flooring, the user needs to follow the below-given steps:
  1. Removing Shallow Scratches:
In order to remove the shallow scratches from the bamboo flooring, the user needs to wash the scratched area first with a mild cleaner specifically made for bamboo flooring. After that, the user needs to wipe the scratched area dry followed by sanding the scratches lightly with fine grit sandpaper. After sanding, wipe the sanding dust with a clean cloth and apply the same color wax crayon or wood stain pen over the scratched area on the bamboo flooring. The excess wax flakes need to be wiped away and after that, the user needs to cover the scratched area with a polyurethane coat.
  2. Prepare The Floor To Remove Deep Scratches:
In order to remove deep scratches and gouges in the bamboo flooring, the user needs to clean the gouges and deep scratches first with warm water and a mild cleaner that is suited to be used on the bamboo flooring. After cleaning, the area should be wiped dry with a lint free cloth. Apart from that, the user needs to buy wood filler that should match with the color of the bamboo flooring or should be close to the matching color. If possible, the user can buy wood filler specifically formulated to be used on the bamboo flooring.
  3. Sand The Area:
After that, the user needs to sand the deep scratches and gouges while focusing more on the edges by using fine grit sandpaper. It has been recommended not to sand over the edges of the bamboo flooring to prevent other parts of the flooring from damage.
  4. Fill Scratches & Gouges With Wood Filler:
The next step will be to fill the scratches and gouges with wood filler by using a putty knife. It has been recommended to fill the deep gouges first and work towards the smaller ones. After that, the user needs to clean the putty knife and use it to level and smooth the wood filler inside the gouges. The excess filler needs to be scraped off from the surrounding areas of the bamboo flooring. The user needs to buff the repaired area with a soft cloth in order to compress the filler inside the gouges and smooth the surface. After that, the user needs to let the filler dry for a few hours before sanding it lightly with fine grit sandpaper.
  5. Apply Wood Stain:
In case the entire process has left the repaired area noticeable with a slight color difference, the user needs to apply a light coat of wood stain over the repaired area in order to match it with the rest of the flooring. The wood stain takes around 24 hours to dry completely.
  6. Apply Sealer:
The last step will be to seal the repaired area with a polyurethane sealant. Before applying the sealant, it is necessary to check whether the wood filler and stain has dried completely or not. The polyurethane coat will reduce future damage on the bamboo flooring. The user needs to apply a thin coat of sealant with a large paintbrush and let it dry overnight before applying the second coat of sealant which should be a little thicker.
