Quartz Countertop Edge Chip Repair: Steps And Items Needed

Steps And Items Needed To Repair The Chip Edge Of The Quartz Couuntertop

The quartz counters are very durable, so you need to check your counter's warranty and contact your manufacturer before beginning any repairs on it. Many states, like California, legitimately require a full warranty of at least one whole year on the quartz counters. Most of the manufacturers exceed this requirement, offering warranties up to 10 or 15 years on counter products. If your counter is still covered by a warranty then simply ask your manufacturer to replace it for you. If not then you can fix this issue by yourself. You just need to gather the required items and follow the steps afterward. Here is the list of required items and steps for this process:

Things Needed For This Project

  • Super Glue Or Knife-Grade Epoxy
  • Acetone
  • Cloths & Gloves
  • Safety Glasses
  • Razor Blade

Steps For This Process

  • Firstly, you need to criticize the damage to determine what type of filler you should use. The location of your damage area is an important examination. Commonly, a thinner glue works best on horizontal surfaces, but the perpendicular surfaces require a thicker glue to avert it from running down on the sides of your stone after application.
  • Next you need to apply acetone with your cloth to clean your area before you begin. Also, you need to protect your eyes by using safety glasses and wear hand gloves to protect your skin from any minor damage. If the non-quartz surfaces are nearby then you need to cover them with the drop cloths to avert damage from any spills. After you clean your area, allow the applied acetone to comprehensively evaporate before you continue. Avert using the bleach, high alkaline solvents or acid-based cleaners, as these may also cause additional damage.
  • Next you need to place the tip of your glue container over the crack & squeeze the tube gently until the glue starts to come out. Do not try to fill your crack entirely right away. Rather, lay down thin layers of glue in your chipped & crack and allow each applied layer to cure properly before adding the next one.
  • Drying times may vary among the different brands of the glue, but they are commonly adequately quick, so see the instructions on your glue for the suggested drying time. Continue to fill your chipped & crack in small layers until your final layer dries wholly just above your counter's surface.
  • Shave away any extra glue to make your repair flush with the rest of your stone. Simply hold your razor blade at a 90-degree angle to your countertop surface and moderately scrape its edge along with the glue. This will progressively shave away any extra glue until your surface is flush.
  • Alternate your direction, shaving your applied glue first from one side and then from the other side & above all be patient. Spending more time pressing delicately will yield better results, while pressing hard or forcing your razor to save your time may extricate the glue from the chipped or crack.
  • Finally allow the applied glue to dry completely for near about 24 hours and then wipe your surface clean before using your countertop again.
