Painting Laminate Floors With Chalk Paint: Steps To Paint

Steps To Paint Laminate Floors With Chalk Paint

Laminate is a faux wood flooring that is made of several layers of a synthetic product fused together in a lamination process. Laminate flooring simulates the real wood flooring and can be painted with chalk paint by following the below-given steps:
  1. Clean The Floor:
The first step will be to remove all the junk from the laminate flooring by wiping it off with a cloth dampened with soapy water. In case anything is left behind on the laminate flooring, it will eventually peel and bring the paint up with it as well.
  2. Apply Primer:
Once the floor dries, the user needs to apply a coat of primer to it that will give the floor a surface to adhere paint properly. The primer coat also helps the chalk paint to bleed through.
  3. Apply Chalk Paint:
After the primer coat dries, the user needs to apply two even coats of chalk paint on to the laminate flooring. It has been recommended by the experts to use Rust-Oleum chalk paint with user preferred color choice. The user needs to let the first coat of chalk paint dry completely before applying the second coat of paint and wait till it dries as well.
  4. Apply Topcoat Of Polyurethane:
Once the chalk paint on the laminate flooring dries, the user needs to apply a top coat of polyurethane on to it. The experts prefer Minwax water based polyurethane as a top coat. If the flooring has to receive a lot of wear & tear, it has been recommended to apply three coats of polyurethane in order to give the flooring extra durability. The user needs to let each coat of polyurethane dry completely as mentioned in the label before applying the next coat.
  5. Let The Flooring Dry:
After applying the last coat of polyurethane, the user needs to wait for about 24 - 48 hours before putting the laminate flooring back to use.
