Installing A Vanity On An Uneven Wall: Step By Step Procedure To Install A Vanity On An Uneven Wall

Step By Step Procedure And Items Needed To Install A Vanity On An Uneven Wall

When you are remodeling your older homes for resale then it's not uncommon to find the walls that are uneven, sloped, slanted, or out of square. You can easily cut and fit your new countertops to any kind of wall. Countertops(vanity) are normally nothing more than particleboard with a tile or laminate covering applied after your particleboard is installed properly. Particleboard is an approved countertop material because it has the perfect dimensions, it's dense & it can be cut in any direction without following the grain pattern. When the particleboard countertops are installed in the home, precautions should be taken just to ensure they are fit tight against your wall. If you are going to install vanity then you need to collect all the required items and go through the step by step procedure carefully.

Things Needed For This Project

  • Particleboard, 3/4 By 26 By 96 Inches
  • Cabinet Scribes
  • Circular Saw
  • Pine Fascia, 3/4 By 1 1/2 By 96 Inches
  • Miter Saw
  • Glue
  • Hammer
  • 1 1/4-Inch Nail

Steps For This Process

  1. Firstly, you need to place your particleboard countertop on top of your cabinet. Slide it tight against your wall.
  2. Now you need to slide a pair of cabinet scribes along your wall. The cabinet scribe is a small handheld tool comparable to a compass. It has two very small arms, one side has a pencil and the other side has a small plate and similar to a blunt knife. As you slide the plate along your wall, the pencil will transfer the line of your wall to your particleboard.
  3. Then you need to place your particleboard top across two sawhorses. By using a circular saw, cut along the line that you drew with the scribes. Place your particleboard back on the top. Check for fit, if it doesn't fit tight, scribe it again until it fits.
  4. Set your scribe so that your pencil & the small plate are a quarter-inch apart. Now you need to place the scribe upside down on the front of your cabinet, under the edge of your particleboard top. The pencil should be marking the underside of your particleboard. Slide your scribe along the front of your cabinets & along one or both sides as unavoidable to create a quarter-inch lip on your particleboard.
  5. Now you need to place your particleboard upside down across 2 sawhorses. You need to use your circular saw to cut along the edge. Place your particleboard top back on your cabinet.
  6. Finally, measure & cut the pine fascia with a miter saw to fit the sides as unavoidable. Now you need to cut a piece to fit the front. You finally, need to run glue along the back of the fascia & nail it to the front and sides of your particleboard top with 1 1/4-inch nail. The top is now ready for the laminates or tile.

Tips And Warnings

  1. If you are trying to install the preformed countertops to your uneven walls, you can't cut them to fit but all you can do is caulk behind them or you can also place the molding or backsplash material to fill the gaps from uneven walls.
  2. Always try to wear safety glasses when working with saws or wood.
  3. You need to use a fine-tooth circular saw blade for the best cuts. You can also use plywood rather than particle board if you want, but there's no real advantage. The measurements here is an example. If you have countertops longer than 96 inches but two pieces of particleboard end to end.
