Storing the furniture as well as the household goods is a good idea if you want the furniture out of the way during remodeling or want to remove furniture from the house but do not like to sell it. Properly wrapping the couch for storage and simply taking some precautions while storing the couch in the storage can ensure that when it is taken out of storage it must be in the same condition as when it is stored.
  1. The first step is to clean all the couch fabric well simply by wiping it down using an antimicrobial cleaner, which must be labeled for the specific couch material. Allow the couch to dry completely before heading to the next step.
  2. In the next step the user needs to polish any of the wooden or metal parts of the couch with the help of a clean rag and an appropriate polisher all according to the directions that are provided by the product's manufacturer.
  3. Remove any of the detachable wooden or the metal legs or even any other parts, then store them in a bag or box. If in case there is any chance that they will potentially scratch or simply damage each other, that time wrap each of them in bubble wrap or any other suitable packing material before storing them in the bag or box. Store each completely dry, also store the removable couch pillow in a plastic bag, or wrap them using the plastic.
  4. Keep the pallets down on the floor of the storage unit. Cover up all the pallets using a layer of the thick plastic sheeting or a tarp.
  5. Cover any of the wooden or any vulnerable corners of the couch using a bubble wrap or cardboard.
  6. Place the couch in the storage unit on top of the pallets and plastic, it is advisable to make sure that it is not directly in touch with the walls or any near-by objects that can potentially stain or damage the couch. Keep the couch up on end only in case if the user absolutely need the space and if the couch is sturdy enough to withstand against this positioning.
  7. Finally place a cotton drop cloth, canvas, or any sheeting on the couch as this will help to protect it from dust. There are also bags commercially-available that is specifically designed to fit on the couch in storage.

Important Tips

  • Whenever it is possible, go for the climate-controlled storage unit having the ample dehumidifying capabilities, mostly in very wet, foggy places.
  • Do not place heavy items on the couch for the sake of increasing the storage space, as the objects can create permanent indentations on the couch.
