How To Whitewash Laminate Flooring: Steps To Whitewash

Steps To Whitewash Laminate Flooring

Laminate Flooring is a faux wood flooring that simulates real wood flooring. In order to create a whitewash finish on the laminate flooring, the user needs to follow the below-given steps:
  1. Clean The Floor:
First, the user needs to clean the laminate flooring with a solution containing a few drops of mild dishwashing soap in a bucket of warm water. The user needs to wipe down the entire laminate flooring with a clean cloth dampened in solution rather than dripped. The entire process of whitewash will work better on the clean surface. After cleaning, the user needs to let the floor dry completely.
  2. Sand The Floor:
The next step will be to sand the entire flooring gently by using a 120 grit sandpaper. It has been recommended by the experts to work along the grain of the laminate floor and sand it down very lightly. The user needs not to remove anything from the floor rather he needs to give the floor a little extra texture to which the primer will cling to. After sanding, the user needs to wipe away the sanding dust with a lint-free shop cloth.
  3. Apply Primer:
After that, the user needs to apply a coat of primer on to the laminate floor by using a paint roller. It has been recommended by the experts to use a primer that should adhere well on to the laminate flooring and should be compatible with latex paint. The user needs to let the primer dry as per the label instructions.
  4. Prepare Whitewash:
The next step will be to prepare whitewash by adding some water to the off-white latex paint. The user needs to try different proportions in order to get the preferred whitewash look. In order to make the whitewash thinner & sheerer, the user needs to add more water to the paint. The user needs to aim towards consistencies like skim milk, heavy cream, and normal cream.
  5. Apply Whitewash:
After that, the user needs to whitewash the laminate flooring by using a sponge brush or a paint roller. In order to create a chalky lime-based whitewash look, it has been recommended by the experts to use flat-finish latex paint. Once painted, the user needs to let it dry completely for up to 24 hours.
  6. Seal The Floor:
The last step will be to seal the whitewash on laminate flooring with water-based latex varnish. It has been recommended by the experts to apply two coats of varnish and allow drying time as per manufacturer's instructions in between each coat. The user can apply the varnish with a regular paintbrush. Once the varnish dries completely, the flooring needs to be used afterward.
