How To Whitewash Faux Wood: 5 Easy Steps To Whitewash

5 Easy Steps To Whitewash The Faux Wood

The users can easily whitewash the faux wood by following the below-mentioned steps:
  1. Clean The Faux Wood: Start by cleaning the dust and the debris particles from the surface of the wood item by making a mixture of the soap and the warm water in a small-sized bucket. Wash the faux wood with this soap mixture and then rinse off the soap residue with the clean water and then allow the faux wood item to get dried completely in the open air before stepping towards the further steps.
  2. Use The Sandpaper: Once the faux wood is completely dried then use the fine-grit sandpaper and rub it over the entire surface of the wood item. Keep on repeating the sanding process until the users won't achieve their desired finish and smoothness on the faux wood item. Clean up the dust by using a soft cloth.
  3. Use The Primer: Then the users need to apply a fine coat of the primer over the entire surface of the faux wood by using the paintbrush or the paint roller. Then let the primer layer to get dried off completely.
  4. Apply The Whitewash: The users are advised to add a few amounts of the water to the whitewash paint in order to create a thin paint. The thick paint does not create a smooth finish and then apply the thinned whitewash paint over the entire surface of the faux wood. Allow the paint to get dried completely for almost 2 to 3 hours.
  5. Use The Sealant: In order to preserve the whitewash layer on the wood item the users can apply the two-layer of the sealant over the painted surface on the faux wood item by using the soft-bristled paintbrush. Allow the first coat to get dried completely before applying the second layer of the sealant. The sealant that the users need to use should be water-based and then allow the varnish coat to dry for almost a day before using the faux wood item again.
