How To Weather Wood With Paint: 7 Easy & Different Steps

7 Easy & Different Steps To Weather Wood With Paint

One of the easiest ways to weather wood is by applying the chalk paint and the steps are described as follows:
  1. Gather All The Materials And Tools: Start by gathering all the tools and the materials that the users require while performing this procedure like chalk paint, dark brown stain, paper towel, sandpaper, soft paintbrush, rags, wood primer, whitewash, wax, screwdriver, and the spray paint as well.
  2. Clean The Wood Item: The users need to clean up all the dust and the debris particles from the surface of the wood item so as to prepare the wood item or the primer layer.
  3. Apply The Primer: Once the wood item is cleaned properly then they need to apply the thin layer of the primer over the entire surface of the wood item by using the soft-bristled paintbrush. Then the users need to use the fine-grit sandpaper and rub it gently over the primer layer and then re-apply the second coat of the primer accordingly. Then allow the wood primer to get dried off completely before applying the layer of the base color.
  4. Apply the chalk paint: Once the wood primer layer is dried than apply the two thin coats of the chalk paint and allow it to get dry.
  5. Use The Dark Brown Stain: Make a mixture of the dark brown stain and the water and then apply the blended paint over the random areas of the wood item. Then use the paper towel and clean up the excess paint from the random sections of the wood item. The users are advised to rub the paper towel in the exact direction of the paint.
  6. Apply The White Paint: Once the dark brown stain is completely dried then make another mixture of the white paint and the water and re-apply the random sections of the wood item that is already painted with the brown stain. Then re-use the paper towel and rub it in the same wood grain direction respectively.
  7. Apply The Wax: Once the wood has achieved the weathered look then the users are advised to use the clear wax and apply it over the wood item by using the soft rags in order to preserve the weathered look.
