How To Upholster Round Corners: Procedure To Upholster

Procedure To Upholster Round Corners

Upholstering round corners is always a difficult task due to the fact that the appearance of corners should always look uniform. The round corners can be upholstered by taking an example of the below-given procedure in which the round corned chair seat has been upholstered:
  1. Remove Chair Seat:
The procedure starts with a seat removal step. First, the user needs to flip the chair upside down and remove all the screws holding the chair from the bottom by using a screwdriver. Once all the screws are removed, the user needs to push the seating with which the seat will pop out of the chair.
  2. Measure The Seat:
The next step will be to measure the seat to determine the fabric, foam & batting required for the process. First, the user needs to measure the chair dimensions vertically and horizontally and multiply the dimensions by 2 to get the required fabric measurement. In order to determine the required batting measurement, the user needs to add 10 inches to the actual seat dimensions. The required foam measurement can be determined by adding 6 inches to the actual seat dimensions.
  3. Remove Old Fabric & Foam:
After that, the user needs to remove the old fabric and foam from the round seat. First, the user needs to pull out staples from the seat bottom using pliers and then pull out the fabric and foam from the wooden piece accordingly. The step will allow the user to expose the wooden seat that should be taken as a template for cutting fabric, foam, and batting.
  4. Cut New Fabric, Foam & Batting:
The next step will be to cut fabric, foam, and batting as per the required dimensions. First, the user needs to cut the fabric that should be twice in size compared to the wooden seat and it should be laid over the flat surface. The batting should be cut 8 inches larger than the wooden seat and it should be laid over the fabric at the center. After that, the user needs to cut the foam 6 inches bigger in size than the wooden seat. Then, the user needs to place the wooden seat over the foam and trace the seat shape over it by using a marker. After that, the user needs to cut the foam around the marked area by using a sharp box knife.
  5. Attach New Foam, Batting, And Fabric:
In the next step, the user needs to spray adhesive over the wooden seat and attach the cut-out foam over it. Once the foam sticks properly over the wood, the user needs to place the foam side over the batting that is centered over the fabric. It has been recommended by the experts to place foam over the batting at the center. After that, the user needs to wrap one side of the fabric and staple it down on to the wooden seat making sure the staple goes through the batting and fabric. Then, the user needs to staple the opposite side by pulling the fabric firmly. The step should be repeated to the other sides of the seat as well and the user needs to stop stapling before 3 inches from all the sides of rounded corners.
  6. Staple Round Corners:
The last step in the procedure will be to staple the rounded corners of the fabric. First, the user needs to staple the center of each rounded corner by pulling and wrapping the corner fabric firmly. After that, the user needs to pinch, pull, and staple the remaining areas tightly by creating a folded pattern. Once the seat is upholstered, the user needs to reattach it back to the chair by using previously removed screws.
