Step By Step Procedure And The Items Required To Upholster A Curved Headboard

The curved headboard usually increases its own unique style to any room and will serve as the major point at the bed backside. If in case the headboard is not upholstered then it can result in behaving a bid hard and the users won't enjoy reading or sitting in the bed. By adding the fabric and the foam will soften the surface of the headboard and its appearance as well. The users can easily upholster a curved headboard at home by gathering the below-mentioned materials and then following the below-defined step by step procedure:

  • Household Cleaner, Soft Cloths & Adjustable Wrench
  • Upholstery Foam, Marker & Utility Knife
  • Scissors, Newspaper & Spray Adhesive
  • Heavy Books, Upholstery Fabric & Batting
  • Staple Gun

Procedure

  • Clean Headboard: Start by detaching the debris and the dust particles within the surface of the headboard by using the household cleaner and the soft cloth as well. Then the users need to wipe down the surface of the headboard by using another soft cloth.
  • Detach Headboard: Then they need to detach the headboard if in case it is affixed with the bed. The users need to unfasten the nuts and the bolts within the back bed frame by using the adjustable wrench. Once they detached headboard they need to place it aside.
  • Cover The Headboard With Foam: Then the users need to place the foam over the floor surface and then place the headboard towards its face side downwards over the top of the foam. The users are advised to center or shift the foam in a way that the headboard will be covered completely with the foam.
  • Trim The Foam: Then they need to trace the area around the bed headboard over the foam layer by using the marker and then trim up the foam as per the traced liners by using the utility knife. They need to keep the headboard in place so as to help in aligning the utility knife. The slicing marks usually make it easier to trim the foam and then place aside the sideboard. Then they need to trim the foam within the slicing marks entirely by using the scissors.
  • Cover Up The Working Area: Then the users need to cover up their working area by using the newspaper so as to get rid of glue overspray. Then they need to place the headboard over the paper towards its face upwards. Then place the trimmed foam over the top of the headboard and then align both of them. Then the users need to keep on trimming the foam with the knife or the scissors till it won't match with the shape of the headboard.
  • Apply The Adhesive Spray: After that, they need to apply the adhesive spray at the trimmed foam back and then let it dry shortly for 2 minutes and then press down the foam into the place over the surface of the headboard and then align them evenly. The users are advised to set a few heavy books over the foam top and then allow the adhesive to get dried off completely for a few hours.
  • Spread The Fabric: Then they need to spread the fabric towards its face downside over the clean surface. Then place the batting over the fabric top and they need to smooth both of them so as to detach the ripples or the wrinkles.
  • Set Up The Batting: Then the users need to place the bed headboard over the batting top towards its face downside so that the foam will eventually rest upon the batting. Then they need to pull the batting and the material to one headboard side and then wrap it down to the back. The users need to tightly pull all the materials and then staple it at each 2 inches areas of the bed headboard side. They need to repeat this procedure to the other headboard side and then fold up the corners like the users are wrapping the gifts.
  • Trim The Excess Fabric: Finally the users need to lift the batting and the fabric at the headboard back where it tackles and then staple it down accordingly. The users can also staple down some extra staples at the curved spots so as to make sure that the fabric will stay. Then they need to cut the unneeded fabric at the headboard back by using the sharp scissors and they are also advised to staple down few more staples in the doubled or the folded areas at the headboard back respectively.
