Step By Step Procedure Of Using Dresser Drawers Into Shelves

If you have a dresser drawer at your place & you want to turn it into shelves, which in turn can be used for storage purposes, you can do so very easily. There are a number of different ways of turning the old dresser drawers into the shelves. The step by step procedure of using dresser drawers into shelves is mentioned below:
  1. Prepare The Pieces: Take a screwdriver and start removing the knobs, handles, hinges as well as the sliders from the drawer and the user can save this for the future projects. After this, lightly start sanding the various sides of the drawers then wipe down to clean all the dust.
  2. Attach The Two Pieces: Based on the size of the drawers, the user can attach two pieces with each other to provide the several shelves on which the user can place the items. Flip them on their sides, the drawer fronts must be facing in the opposite directions, the sides of the shelves will become the drawer faces. Position one on top of the other, but leave some space so that they are not one over the other direction. This will help to provide additional space to place items once it is done.
  3. Glue And Screw: Apply the wooden glue in-between the two sides and use the drill to drill holes for purpose of the screws. Screw them in place as this will help to hold the 2 drawers tightly together. Another option for a larger drawer is to consider adding the shelves inside of it with the help of pieces of scrap wood. Measure, cut, drill and finally screw into place.
  4. Paint: Most of the drawers are usually made from a variety of woods using the most expensive wood as the front. Often, this means the woods that are used are different in colors and tones. To connect all the pieces as well as to provide a fresh look, paint over all the drawers. While the user could use the spray paint, leftover wall paint can also be used for this project. Using a paintbrush will help to get them done but can take more time. However, the result always looks nice as well as also gives the chance to apply paint to give an additional texture if needed. The step requires 2 or more coats of the paint, let the first coat dry then apply the other coat.
  5. Make The Backdrop Pop: To add the interesting design element, the user can also paint the insight back of the new shelving unit but in a different color so that it will stand out as well as to create a colorful backdrop. It can also be decoupaged, that is the process of gluing paper with the Modge Podge. It is highly advisable to consider painting from the front edge in another color.
  6. Using D-shaped Hooks: On the back of the upper corners, drill some holes and then screw in the D-shaped hooks. This will help to secure as well as hold the shelving unit in place on the wall. To give another level of functionality, the user can add the small hooks underneath the shelves. Hang coffee mugs, hats, or the jewelry there.
