How To Treat Woodworm In Antique Furniture: Steps

What Are Steps To Treat Woodworm In Antique Furniture?

It has been recommended by the experts to seek advice from a professional when restoring antique furniture affected by woodworms. In case the user wants to do the restoration by self, he can do so by following the below-given steps:
  1. Identification:
It is necessary to examine antique furniture thoroughly in order to see whether it is affected by woodworm infestation or not. If the user sees tiny holes in the wood, it is a clear indication that woodworms are creating their way into the wood. The user can also notice a cluster of pearly eggs in the wood that can be found in crevices or cracks of the wood. Apart from that, if the user wants to check whether the infestation is active on the wood, he can tap the furniture sharply and see whether light colored bore dust comes out of tiny holes or not. Bore dust coming out is an indication that the infestation is still active.
  2. Remove Waxes Or Varnishes:
After identification, the user needs to remove waxes or varnishes present on the wood furniture so that the treatment can penetrate the wood well.
  3. Apply Woodworm Killer:
The next step will be to apply the ready to use woodworm killer on to the affected area and inside the tiny holes. Once completed, let the antique furniture along with woodworm killer dry completely.
  4. Apply Beewax:
The last step will be to melt the Beeswax and tilt it into the wood color. Once ready, fill in the tiny holes with it and let it dry completely before putting it to use again.

Note: The above-mentioned process is a quick aesthetic fix which doesn't guarantee prolonged protection from woodworm infestation as the user can treat localized areas with it only.
