Unfinished Wood refers to a raw wooden surface having no protective layer applied over. It has been recommended by the experts to seal and finish the wood in order to protect the unfinished wood from damages and stains. The user needs to follow the below-given steps in order to treat the unfinished wood floors after installation:
  1. Sand The Flooring:
The first step will be to sand the entire unfinished wood flooring lightly by using a sanding machine. It has been recommended by the experts to sand the unfinished wood in the direction of the grain.
  2. Vacuum Clean The Flooring:
After sanding, the user needs to vacuum clean the entire flooring in order to remove sanding dust. It is necessary to attach a specially designed head to the vacuum during the step.
  3. Apply Stain:
The next step is to apply the wood floor stain over the entire unfinished flooring by using a cloth or brush. There are several wood floor stains available in the market in both vibrant and natural color options among which the user can choose any stain. The stain should be applied in the direction of the grain and allowed to dry as per label instructions. It has been recommended by the experts to apply two coats of stain making sure the first coat is dry before applying the second coat. The user can also skip the step if he wants to give his flooring a more natural look.
  4. Apply Primer:
After that, the user needs to prepare the wood by applying a coat of wood floor primer over it. The user needs to apply primer only if the manufacturer has recommended and the primer should be applied over the flooring in small sections. Once the entire flooring is primed, the user needs to let it dry as per label instructions.
  5. Apply Sealer:
Once the flooring is prepared, the user needs to seal it by using a wood floor oil or wood floor lacquer. It depends upon the user whether he wants to seal his flooring with oil or lacquer. The lacquer finish is used to give flooring a smooth finish and the oil gives the flooring a natural look. It has been recommended by the experts to apply oil or lacquer finish as per the manufacturer's instructions and apply two coats of lacquer or oil. The first coat of oil or lacquer should be allowed to dry as per label instructions before applying the second coat.
