The pine is the type of softwood and needs to be properly protected particularly if the furniture is for the outdoor use. The pinewood furniture can be protected by applying sealant or finishes over it such as epoxy, paint, or Polyurethane to prevent it from getting damaged and make it work for longer.
Easy Steps To Treat Pine For Outdoor Use With Polyurethane Finishes
The steps to apply the Polyurethane finishes on the outdoor pine furniture are mentioned below:
- Ventilated Area: Prior to applying the finish make sure that area is well ventilated.
- Lay Cloth: Lay the cloth over the ground to place the furniture over it in order to protect the floor or ground staining.
- Diluted Polyurethane Finish: Add a little amount of the mineral finish into the Polyurethane and mix it well to thin it a bit.
- Application: Dip the paintbrush into the diluted finish and apply the coating over the piece. The coating must be done using long strokes.
- Dry It: Allow the sealant to dry for 24 hours and follow it by a coating of the undiluted finish in long and thin strokes. Allow the finish to dry again for 24 hours.
- The Second And Third Coat: For more sturdy protection apply two to three coats of the finish over the pine furniture. Let the coats dry completely.
- Uneven Areas: Use a razor blade to make the uneven surface smooth by removing the bumps if any.
- Sanding: Sand the entire surface with the help of the 400-grit sandpaper carefully to make the finish luster.
- Final Coat: Apply the polyurethane finish again to the entire surface as a final coat and allow it to dry again for 24 hours.
Note: Finishing the outdoor pine furniture pieces after every two or three years is recommended to keep it always looks awesome and shiny.
