How To Treat Furniture For Termites: Methods Of Treatment For Termites In Furniture

Methods To Treat Furniture For Termites

There are several methods of treating furniture affected by termites but before starting the treatment, it is necessary to know about the termite that has affected the wood. Mostly two types of termites affect the wood i.e. dry wood termite that can only attack the wood & subterranean termite that can live in soil as well as wood. The methods of treatment for termites are as follows:
  1. Expose The Furniture To Sunlight:
The easiest method of treatment for termites is to expose the furniture to the sunlight because termites thrive in dark & moist conditions and cannot withstand heat. It has been recommended to leave the furniture in sunlight for 2-3 days and the termites will die off easily. Also, the sunlight helps to take off moisture in the furniture resulting in the prevention of further infestation.
  2. Create A Cardboard Trap:
In this method, a cardboard trap is made as it consists of cellulose and has a woody smell that termites can't resist. The trap is made by moistening the cardboard with water and then placing it near the affected area. Moistening makes the smell of cardboard more distinct and after few hours, the termites will lure into the open cardboard. The user can discard or burn the cardboard afterward to get rid of termites.
  3. Use Boric Acid:
In this method, the user needs to make a mixture containing borax powder & water and then spray the mixture on to the affected areas. After a few applications, the termites from wooden furniture will vanish away.
  4. Use Parasitic Nematodes:
Parasitic Nematodes are very small worms that can kill the termites within 2 days. The worms burrow into termite larvae in order to kill termites present in it. The worms can be purchased from online or nursery stores.
  5. Treatment By Oil:
The termites can also be treated with two types of oils i.e. Orange and neem oils. Orange oil contains d-limonene that can kill termites when they come in contact with the oil whereas Neem oil can effect on termites once ingested. The user needs to spray these oils on the affected areas of the furniture for the best results.
