Best & Easy Way To Attach A Tile To Table For Outdoors

The user should choose a stable base, that should be wide enough to support the weight of the tile surface without getting tipping over if incase the table gets bumped. The best step by step way to tile the tabletop are as follows:
  1. Cleaning: The first step is to clean the table base as well as remove any residue of glue, mortar or any fasteners from the old top if there is any. After that measure down the area of the inside part of the tabletop frame that is needed for the new tile top.
  2. Cut A Paper Pattern: In order to make the pattern of the area that user plan to tile cut a paper pattern. Place the pattern near the work area for the table. The user needs to trim out a 5/8-inch piece from plywood to fit inside the tabletop frame or have this done at the lumber supply store. After that having the piece, paint it with few coats of weatherproofing sealer or with the outdoor paint that will help to waterproof it.
  3. Arrange: In order to create a pattern or simply finalize the placement and spacing for that arrange the tiles on the paper. Place the plywood base that is prepared on the table frame and then apply a very thin layer of thin-set mortar in a small area. Transfer the tile from the paper pattern over the mortared base, start working from one side to the other or simply from the center out, depending on the design.
  4. Thin-set Dries: Once the thin-set fully dries then spread out the mortar on the entire surface, including the edges where the tiles meet the table frame, spread the mortar with the help of grout float or putty knife. At the same time wipe off any excess grout using a clean, damp sponge. The grouting left a faint powdery residue on the tiles that can be wiped off once the tabletop is fully set.
  5. Overnight: Leave the grout to set for overnight and then seal down the new tile top with few coats of clear tile and the grout sealer as well.
  6. Secure: Use the screws through existing holes in the frame under the plywood backing to secure the tabletop to the table frame Or the other option is to cut down four little blocks of wood, then drill the starter holes and secure wood screws through it. Slightly Overlap the blocks to the frame edges under the plywood that act as brackets, and screw it into the plywood tabletop base from below side.

Tips

  • If the user has a tall and skinny bistro table that may be too top-heavy with a tile surface, then for the stability use the sandbag to the legs or wire the table to a patio or simply to the balcony railing.
  • The center opening for an umbrella tile should be sealed or tiled to prevent the water from getting under the tile that damages the table.
