Steps To Strip Varnish From Cabinets

It is important to strip the old varnish from the cabinets before applying the new varnish. If the customer applies new varnish without stripping off the old varnish, the new varnish does not stick properly on the cabinets. The material required to strip varnish from cabinets includes Screwdriver, Varnish remover, Sponge, Cloths, Pencil, A bucket of soap and water, Rubber gloves, Stripping Brush, Sandpaper, and Protective Goggles. The steps are mentioned below:
  1. Remove Doors And Drawers: The first step is to unscrew the hinges from the cabinet doors and remove drawers.
  2. Detach And Wash Hardware: Next step is to remove the hardware components from the cabinet like handles, etc. Carefully wash the hardware components with soap and water without scratching the components and let them dry.
  3. Prepare Doors And Drawers: Another step is to prepare the doors and drawers by removing the dirt and grime from them by using a solution of soap and water or trisodium phosphate. Then leave the doors and drawers to dry.
  4. Varnish Remover: Now wear the protective gloves and goggles then apply varnish remover on the doors and drawers of the cabinet and let the remover to sit on the surface of the cabinet for about 35 minutes.
  5. Remove Varnish: Take a stripping brush and remove the varnish from the cabinet parts. Then clean the surface of cabinets with a clean cloth and allow it to dry.
  6. Sanding: To remove the leftover varnish from the cabinet, take a sandpaper and sand the rough edges of the cabinet. Make the rough surface and edges smooth so that new varnish sticks properly on the cabinet surface.
  7. Cleanup: At last vacuum the sanded dust particles from the cabinet surface and clean the cabinet surface with a dry cloth.
