Pine is the softwood type of the wood that comes with the uneven grain pattern and due to this factor, it will not be easy to stain it like hardwoods. The staining on the pinewood must be done carefully as its soft texture may result in the blotches or murky staining that will be disappointing. One of the best ways to stain the wood like pine is to seal them first to restrict it from the soaking of the stains.

Steps To Stain The Pine Floors And Doors

The various steps to stain the pine floors and doors in an easy way are mentioned below:
  1. Sanding: Sand the floor or door made up of the pinewood using the low-grit sandpaper in circular directions.
  2. Re-Sanding: Once the initial process of the sanding using low grit sandpaper is done then re-sanding must be followed using the high grit sandpaper.
  3. Scrubbing: Use a soft sponge to scrub the wood smoothly in order to get the clear grain pattern.
  4. Wood Conditioner: Now apply double coats of wood conditioner and cover the entire floor, bard, or door including the ends. The first coat of the conditioner must be soaked by the wood completely prior application of the second coat.
  5. Wipe Off: The excess conditioner is required to be wiped off keenly because of any leftover will result in the wood pores.
  6. Let It Dry: Allow the wood to dry for 2-3 hours once treated with the conditioner.
  7. Staining: The small amount of the satin needs to be soaked using scrap cloth in order to apply on the pinewood in eccentric circles. Cover entire board and go for smooth staining application.
  8. Check: Check if the stain is faint or dark in color in any area if so it means rubbing must be continued till it adheres well.
  9. Excess Stain: The excess stain is required to be wiped off with the help of the clean cloth.
  10. Dry It: Let stain to dry completely prior application of the second coat.
  11. Wipe: Once the stain is dry perfectly wipe the pinewood using a microfiber cloth to remove dust debris.
  12. Clear Coat: Apply 2-3 brushes of the clear coat like varnish, lacquer, etc on wood to get the job done and allow the coat to dry completely.

  13. Staining Pine Dark Brown

    Staining pine in dark brown requires following steps below:
    1.Sanding: Sanding with the block is recommended. Initially use the 100 grit sandpaper and follow by re-sanding with the 220 grit.
    2.Grain Raising: After sanding is done grain raising process must be followed.
    3.Conditioner: Apply the water-based wood conditioner to the wood. Maximum two coats required.
    4.Dye: Use the water-soluble dye powder as per the instructions labeled on the product. Two coats of the dye need to be applied over the wood.
    5.Shellac: Now apply the shellac in two coats to prepare the surface for glazing.
    6.Glaze: Application of the glaze is recommended on the surface.
    7.Top Coats: Finally coat the wood with protective sealers like varnish or lacquer as a top coat. Ensure to apply clear top coat only after the glaze is dried completely.
