7 Easy Steps Of Staining Pinewood To Look Like Oak

If you want your pinewood to look exactly like oak, then you need to perform the staining process on the pinewood. Staining pinewood is not a difficult task, you just need to go through all the steps mentioned below:
  1. Remove: If in case there is any hardware on the wooden pieces remove them, such as handles and hinges. Layout any doors or the drawer fronts on the flat surface. Line down all the insides of cabinets or drawers with the help of a taped-down newspaper.
  2. Use Trisodium Phosphate: To clean the wood apply the Trisodium Phosphate cleanser. Start by applying it to a cloth, and then rub the cloth over the entire wooden surface. The user needs to change to another fresh cloth, dampen it slightly and then rub down the wood to remove all of the traces of cleanser residue.
  3. Sanding: Allow the wood to dry completely from the above step. Then sand the wood evenly with the help of 150-grit sandpaper. If in case the pine has existing shellac, then be sure to sand it all off.
  4. Wipe: After the sanding is done then wipe down the wood using a clean rag to remove all of the sanding dust. Clean as well as vacuum the area so that there is no dust that remains in the air to settle on the wood as it dries. After that apply a deglossing product all over the wood surfaces, with the help of a clean rag. Leave the wood to sit for an hour.
  5. Stain And Paint: In this step the user needs to dip a white china brush in the golden oak gel stain and apply it onto the entire surface of the wood in the directions of grain. The user must use short strokes of the brush and go only in one direction, and also blend in any lines while applying.
  6. Pat The Stained Wooden: Leave the stain to rest for about three minutes. Then gently pat the stained wooden surfaces using a white cloth as this will absorb any extra stain. Leave the stain to dry for almost 24 hours.
  7. Darker Oak Color: For the darker oak look apply more stain. Leave the final coat of stain to dry for another 24 hours, and then lastly apply 2 layers of clear polyurethane varnish. Leave the varnish to dry for 2 days and then reinstall the hardware that you removed before starting the process.
