The pine wood is the beautiful flooring option but when it comes to staining it is one of the most difficult tasks. The grain of the pinewood varies and due to this fact, it becomes tough to stain the floor in a similar way. Before staining the pinewood it is important to consider all the factors to make the surface more even so that it will adhere to the stain well. If the pinewood floors are stained without proper technique and method it will result in the uneven surface with a blotched or streaked look that will be hard to recover and repair.

Easy Steps To Finish/Stain Dark Pinewood Flooring

Easy steps to finish the pinewood flooring are mentioned below:
  • Cleaning: Use a damp cloth to mop the floor perfectly in order to clean it from all dirt and grime including all corners and hard to reach areas.
  • Counter Sunk Nail Holes: All sunk nail holes in the pine flooring needs to be filled with the hardening putty using the putty knife. Doing this is important to level the floor in order to create a unique finish.
  • Let The Putty Dry: Allow the putty dry for approximately three to four days. To check whether putty is completely dried or not you need to smoothly press putty filled nail holes for firmness.
  • Sanding: Once the putty is dried just go for the sanding using 120-grit sandpaper. The sanding must be done very keenly to remove all scuffs and marks. Follow the direction of the grains while sanding the floor.
  • Mop: Mop the floor with a clean wet cloth to remove all sanding leftover.
  • Finish Selection: Select the best stain for finishing the pinewood dark.
  • Varnish: Alternatively, the varnish can also be applied over the floor to keep a natural look. The stain will make floor color dark.
  • Thick Coat: Take the paint tray to pour stain or varnish into it and apply one of them using medium nap wood paint roller. Apply the stain over the floor using the roller in long strokes.
  • Dry: Allow the stain or varnish dry for the 15 minutes so that wood will completely absorb it. Make sure not to enter into the room until the finish dries completely.
  • Second Coat: Once the first coat dries application of the second coat is required and let it dry for 15 minutes as well.
  • Wipe: Once the floor dries completely wipe off the entire floor using lint-free rag cloth.
  • Allow It To Dry: After wiping the floor let it dry for 24 hours.
  • Buffing: Once the 24 hours are completed buff the floor using 150-grit sandpaper. Make sure, to sand smoothly in order to get the lustrous finish.
  • Wipe: Wipe floor again using a wet mop to clean all sanding residue.
  • Final Coat: Final coat of the stain or varnish needs to be applied one more time using a paint roller and cover the entire floor.
  • Dry: After the final coat is finished let it dry again for fifteen minutes and follow up by wiping it using the lint-free rag cloth.

The Tung oil offers exceptional finish to the pine flooring as it has the capability of penetrating deep into the wood surface. Just pour the Tung oil over the clean cloth and apply it over the entire floor to get the ultimate natural look.
