How To Stabilize A Wooden Bed Frame: Steps To Stabilize

Steps To Stabilize A Wooden Bed Frame

In order to stabilize a wooden bed frame that has become wobbly over time, the user needs to follow the below-given steps:
  1. Preparation:
First, the user needs to remove box spring, mattress, or any type of padding from the bed frame and place them aside.
  2. Tighten Bolts:
The next step after that will be to tighten the bolts that are holding the bed frame together by using a screwdriver or a wrench. The most common reason behind the wobbly beds is loose hardware with which the rails are not held together.
  3. Re-join Glued Joints:
If the bed frame has any separating joints, the user needs to re-join them. The separating joints can make the bed frame to shift that creates a wobbly or swaying motion. The joints can be of two types either glued or non-glued and in order to re-join glued joints, the user needs to apply glue inside the separated joint followed by laying clothes on both sides of the joint. The step helps in removing excess glue from the joint and the user needs to gently hammer the joint together afterward using a rubber mallet. Apart from that, the user needs to clamp the glued area while the glue is drying in order to secure it. All other separated glued joints can be fixed the same way.
  4. Re-join Non-Glued Joints:
In order to re-join non-glued joints, the user needs to ask for help from one or more people to hold the joint together. The user needs to lay clothes around the joint in order to protect the wood frame from rubber marks. After that, the user needs to hammer the joint gently together followed by repeating the step on other loose joints as well.
  5. Measure The Legs Separately:
The next step will be to measure each leg of the bed frame separately and see if they are of the same measurement or not. The uneven legs could be the reason that the bed frame has become wobbly. Apart from that, the user needs to check the flooring on which bed is placed with a carpenter's level in order to determine its slope. Both the scenarios could be fixed by replacing the existing legs feet with the new one or by adjusting the length of the legs.
