2 Easy Methods & Steps To Spray Paint Lawn Chairs

In order to spray paint lawn chairs, follow the below given easy methods:

Method 1: Cleaning the Metal

  1. Well-ventilated Area: Always try to work in that area which is well-ventilated, set your lawn chair on a drop cloth because it will help your surrounding area to be clean.
  2. Scrub The Chair: Now, scrub your lawn chair by using a wire brush in order to remove all the old paint and any rust from your chair. Continue your work until you get the smooth surface to work.
  3. Wash Your Chair: Now, wash your lawn chair with TSP cleaner and then use a scrub brush to remove dirt from your lawn chair. Combine 1/4 cup (56 g) of TSP cleaner with two gallons (7.6 L) of water and stir it well together thoroughly. Dip your bristle brush in this mixture and scrub the surface of your lawn chair to remove any dirt or residual paint. Clean as much as possible.
  4. Wipe Down: After cleaning the lawn chair now, wipe down your chair with a wet cleaning rag and let it dry for a few times. Simply, wet a cleaning rag in cold and warm water and rub the entire surface of your chair to wipe any dirt and paint.

Method 2: Spray-Painting Your Lawn Chair

  1. Apply: First apply a thin coat of your spray metal primer onto the lawn chair. Always remember to wear a face mask to avoid damage from the paint fumes. Grab a spray can of metal primer to use on your lawn chair. Hold the can of primer 15 cm (6 inches) from the chair and press gently the trigger to apply it.
  2. Dry: Now, let the first coat of your metal primer dry for 1 hour and leave the chair in a well-ventilated area or outdoors. While the metal primer will be dry to the touch within about 15 minutes and wait for 1 hour before handling the chair so the metal primer has enough time to set.
  3. Spray Another Coat: Now, spray another coat of metal primer onto the lawn chair and let it dry for 1 hour and then apply the second coat of metal primer in the alternate path as your first coat so you can get the even coverage.
  4. Coat The Metal: Now you have to coat the metal with the spray paint in straight, even strokes. Shake your can of spray paint before applying it. Hold the paint can about 15 cm(6 inches) from the lawn chair and press the button can to spray it. Always work in straight, back and forth strokes across the lawn chair to get an even application, starting from the top of the lawn chair and working toward the bottom.
  5. Dry Again: After spraying the paint now let the paint dry for at least 15 minutes. Spray paint dries quickly so you can apply multiple coats in a short period of time. After completing the first coat process, allow this paint to sit for at least 15 minutes. Once your first coat is dry, and then you can apply your second coat.
  6. Second Coat: Apply the 2nd surface of the paint to finish your lawn chair and then let it dry for 24 hours. Once the first coat is dry, apply the 2nd coat of spray paint in the alternate direction.
  7. Clear Coat: This is your final step. Spray a layer of clear coat on your lawn chair to protect it. Grab a can of spray clear coat and shake it properly before you apply it to your lawn chair. Hold the can at least 15 cm (6 inches) away from the lawn chair and work from the top to the bottom, using short, back and forth bursts from the paint can. Let the clear coat dry for at least one day before using your lawn so the clear coat has enough time to set.
