How To Shorten Sheer Curtains: Easy Techniques Used For Shortening The Sheer Curtain

Easy Techniques Used For Shortening The Sheer Curtain

For any reason, the owner has decided to shorten the sheer curtains. Shorten the sheer can look like a major task, but with the proper planning as well as with good techniques, it is a simple task. Below are some of the easy techniques used for shortening the sheer curtains:

Fused

For the finished length cut out the fabric to about 4 to 8 inches longer. The excess amount must be divided in half and use the final amount for each fold. Fold up the hem by a half-amount and then firmly press the fold. Then the second time the user needs to fold the hem by the same folding amount and also press the new fold as well. Position a strip of the 1/4-inch-wide that is the fusible webbing in-between the first one fold that is in the hem and with the sheer curtain's wrong side. Finally, fuse the hem in the spot, with the help of the fusible webbing instructions provided by the manufacturer.

Trimming

The other option is to simply, cut off little of the length. The sheers with a lot of the fabric are bulky and do not look good with the hemming. To trim up the sheers, simply hang them up on the window for knowing the required length. Trim away all the excess fabric at the time when the sheers are hanging, but while trimming it is important to leave an extra inch that is used for turning under. The other option is to hang them and then mark the length with the help of the pins or chalk and then place the curtains on the flat surface to cut it off.

Hemming

It totally depends on the type of fabric that the sheer curtains are made from, the user can hem them using the machine. Once the user trims off all the extra fabric, get rid of the curtain from the rod. Flip the fabric 1/2 inch to the underside and then once again turn 1/2 inch for hiding all the raw edges. With the help of plenty of the pins for holding the fabric in its spot, this is needed especially in case if the fabric is slippery. Take a long stitch than the normal, but not as long as the stitch of gathering, to hem the curtain by machine. If in case the fabric of the sheer curtains is made in a way that it has a lot of holes, like the lace, that time hem the curtains simply with the hand.

Serging

Serging is another form that is used to hem the sheers. With the help of a stitch of serging fixed on the sewing machine leaving a satin stitch right at the fabric's bottom, without any of the extra fabric that can get while turning the fabric from the underside. If the user has a serger sewing machine, this will perform both the jobs at the same time as it will trim as well as make the stitching. If the user does not have a serger, that time trim off all the extra fabric and set up the sewing machine for stitching a satin stitch.

Hem Tape

Hem tape is the option that is used for shortening the sheer curtains. Trim-off the sheer curtains to 1/2 inch longer than the required final length. Secure the hem tape with the front side of the sheer curtain and flip it from the backside, the result will be a neat and clean hem that is on the front of the sheer. The important point to note down is that hem tape is also the best suited on the sheer fabric which is slippery.
