Steps To Sew A Cushion Cover For A Bench

The steps are mentioned below to sew cushion covers for the bench:

Step 1: Preparing The Fabric

  1. Measure The Bench: The first step is to carefully measure the dimensions for length and depth of the flat bench seat.
  2. Cut The Fabric: Next step is to cut the fabric according to the size and shape of the cushion. Cut the four pieces of fabric for four sides and the two pieces of fabric for bottom and one fabric piece for top of the cushion.
  3. Measure And Cut: Now measure the dimensions of the cushion and cut the fabric as per the requirement of the cushion with the help of rotary cutter in a straight line.
  4. Mark The Fabric: Take a pencil and mark small dots at the corners of the fabric that determines start and stop for sewing.

Step 2: Sewing The Bench Cushion Cover

  1. Lay Out Biggest Piece: Now take a long fabric strip piece and put the right side of fabric upwards. Then meet the corners and make even edges and pin the fabric at correct position. Take other long strip and repeat the same.
  2. Position The Needle: For first stitch place the needle on the dot mark and start to stitch top fabric with large piece and stop at the corner marked with a dot. Now cut the thread and start from the dot mark on the bottom of the fabric strip and end at other marked corner.
  3. Lay Out The Main Fabric: Place the good side of the main fabric upwards and pin the shorter fabric strips with it and match the corners.
  4. Sew Shorter Strips: Now stitch the sides of shorter strips with main fabric piece and press the seam.
  5. Add A Hem: Before stitching the back strips, turn the half inch edge of fabric with the help of iron.
  6. Do The Corners: Pin the long and short fabric strip together and stitch at the corners. Repeat the same and stitch four corners.
  7. Cut Extra Fabric: Carefully cut the extra fabric so that fabric does not bunch inside.
  8. Turn Cushion Cover: Now turn right side of the cushion cover out and with the help of seam ripper or finger bring the corners out. Then put the upholstery foam into the cushion cover.
