At the time of the installation process of some locksets, you have to keep in mind that the lockset is "handed" to your door. This, in turn, means that after installing locksets, the keyhole will be on the external side, and the lever handles will expand & enlarge toward the center of the door. If in case you purchase the wrong lockset, you won't be able to install it perfectly & accurately on your door. Schlage is a kind of door handle that gets around this problem by making its door handles reversible. You can easily reverse a Schlage door handle in order to fit your door, irrespective of which side it's handed on. To reverse a Schlage door handle, go through the below-mentioned steps carefully:
  • First of all, put the key into the lockset. Rotate the key 90 degrees anticlockwise, as long as it is upright & perpendicular in the keyhole.
  • The next step is to locate a small hole in the side of the handle, nearby the face of the lockset. Place, fit, or push the end of a door handle tool or small flat-head screwdriver into the hole. Press in on the tool or screwdriver at the time of pulling out on the handle. Slide the handle of the lockset as long as it butts up against the key.
  • Now, rotate the key 90 degrees clockwise, and take it out of the keyhole. Remove or extract the handle the rest of the way of the lockset.
  • Next, move the tool or screwdriver smoothly into the hole on the other handle. There is no need to put in the key or turn the lock button. Take out the handle from the lockset.
  • After that, slide the handle from the side having its keyhole over the lockset shaft. Press in on the handle as long as it locks in place.
  • Finally, slide the handle from the lock-button side of the lockset onto the shaft as long as it butts against the retaining clip. Put the key in the keyhole, and rotate it 90 degrees anticlockwise again. Press in on the handle as long as it locks in place before removing the key.
