Easy Steps For Re-upholstering A Loveseat

Re-upholstering a loveseat is a great way to personalize it or if the old upholstery is damaged that also needs Re-upholstering. The process can be a little difficult, but it is worth it, the easy step by step way to reupholster a loveseat is mentioned below:

Step 1: Removing The Old Upholstery

  1. Start the process by taking the pictures of the loveseat pre-upholstery. Take pictures of how the loveseat looks before tearing it apart, and also take pictures of all the process of destroying it. Take pictures inside as well as outside, from front and back. Also, take a closeup picture of any of the area that might be difficult.
  2. While taking the loveseat fabric off, it is important to take care not to damage the old cover or any other parts that will be needed later on.
  3. Check all the cushions for the compromised filling material. Check if any of the filling material needs to be replaced once the loveseat has been stripped down. If the loveseat needs new cushion filling, then purchase the high-quality foam, that can last for many years to come. Whereas the cheap foam breaks down quickly.

Step 2: Assembling The New Upholstery

  1. Use the pictures as a guide. The pictures will help a lot while the user creates and put the new cover on. In this way, the user will be able to reupholster a loveseat easily and quickly.
  2. Cut the fabric, to cut the fabric look for a large flat area like a large table or on the floor to roll out as well as cut the new fabric. Use the old cover as a guide to cut out the fabric. Lay down the old cover pieces right on the new fabric, and rearrange the pieces on the top of the fabric as required for saving fabric. On the seamed edges cut about 1/2" inch from the old seam. And on the stapled edges the user needs to add 2-3" inches more, this will be used to pull up the fabric cover onto the loveseat.
  3. Sew the fabric and to do so use the older heavy-duty metal sewing machines as it works better and holds up longer as compared to the new lightweight plastic machines. To sew along all the welting edges use the zipper foot. Use heavy-duty thread with a heavy needle to sew all the fabric. Leave a 1/2" seam allowance.
  4. In order to attach the new fabric to the loveseat get a heavy-duty staple gun. Then start attaching the new fabric from the inside out. First of all attach the loveseat deck, after that the inside arms, and the inside back as well. No matter which way the user will be attaching the new fabric, it is important to be sure to pull the new fabric snug while attaching it, otherwise it will stretch with the span of time.
