How To Restore A Weathered Deck: Step By Step Instructions Of Restoring A Weathered Deck

Step By Step Instructions Of Restoring A Weathered Deck

Stain refers to a finish that is applied to the wood with which the wood doesn't change its color rather it enhances the natural look of the wood. Most of the stains come in natural wood colors but there are also stain colors that can fit in with any design. Similar to the paints, heavier stains form a protective cover on the wood furniture that protects the wood from weather damage. The heavier stain is mostly used on wooden decks but with age, it turns unattractive and needs to be removed as soon as possible. The majority of the decks need a little bit of cleaning as well as maintenance at least once a year. A pressure washer is considered one of the best tools when it comes to speeding up the deck cleaning process. In order to restore a weathered deck, gather the required items first & then go through the below-mentioned steps carefully & achieve the desired result of your work & also make the deck look brighter, longer-lasting.

Things You Will Need

  • Power Washer
  • Wood Filler
  • 100-Grit Sandpaper
  • Wood Sealer

Steps

  1. Use The Power Washer: First and foremost start by using the power washer in order to remove all the dust, dirt, grime, and debris particles from the deck. After applying the power washer, allow the deck to dry for near about two days.
  2. Remove The Loose Nails: The next step is to detach all the loose nails from the deck and instead of the loosened nails you then need to affix the 3-inch screw to about half an inch distance from the loose nail holes. Then, you also need to affix the sticking-up nails by sinking them with the drill.
  3. Use The Wood Filler: After that, you need to mend the cracks on the deck by using the epoxy wood filler. Apply the filler to the cracked area by using the putty knife and then you need to get rid of as much filler as you possibly can from the cracked area.
  4. Use The Sandpaper: Next, you need to pull the damaged board from the deck by using the pry bar. Then it is time to use the sandpaper and rub it over the entire surface of the deck in order to remove all the splinters and the raised edges from the deck.
  5. Remove The Dust: Now, you need to clean the deck and wipe away all the dust by using the vacuum and then use the 100-grit sandpaper and rub it again over the entire surface of the deck.
  6. Use The Wood Sealer: Finally, you need to apply a layer of the sealer to the entire surface of the deck in order to protect it from the damage caused by the harmful sun rays.
