Four Easy Ways To Restore/Repair A Leather Couch

The leather couches are very durable that can add charm and glam to any house but within a long span of time, the leather couches might get dirty, damaged or even get discolored. The users can easily restore a couch at home by going through the 4 easy ways mentioned below:

Way I- Cleaning The Leather Couch

  • Collect Materials: The users need to start by gathering the materials that they require while accomplishing this task like a vacuum cleaner, towel, small bowl, microfiber cloth, mixing spoon, vinegar, and water as well.
  • Clean: Then they need to clean up all the dust and the debris particles from the surface of the leather couch by using the vacuum. They need to run the vacuum in between the crack or the services all around the armrests or the cushions in order to be sure that the couch does not consist of the debris particles.
  • Make Solution: Then make the solution of the white vinegar and the water in a small bowl and then stir it continuously so that the ingredients are mixed properly. Then soak a soft microfiber cloth in the solution and then rub the damp cloth vigorously all over the surface of the leather couch.
  • Small Sections: The users are advised to clean up the sofa in the smalls sections and in the round motions as well. They need to start from one end of the top section and then work across the entire couch surface and then they need to make the couch dry by using another clean towel so as to clean up the excess solution.

  • Collect Items: Start by gathering items like a small bowl, cream of tartar, mixing spoon, lemon juice, water, baking soda, rubbing alcohol, eucalyptus oil, microfiber cloth, and hairspray.
  • Clean: The users can easily clean up the mildew or the mold by using the rubbing alcohol. The mildew usually gets built upon the surface of the leather couch if it is placed in the damp areas for a long period of time. The users need to make a mixture of the rubbing alcohol and the water in a small bowl and then soak the microfiber cloth in the solution and rub it over the surface of the leather couch in the small sections and that too with the circular motion respectively.
  • Eucalyptus Oil: In order to get rid of the pen marks the users are advised to use the Eucalyptus oil or the hairspray and to do do so they need to soak the cotton swab directly into the oil and rub it directly over the pen marked area. If the couch is having the stains of the permanent marker then users can spray the hairspray over the marked area and then clean up the excess spray.
  • Baking Soda: The users then need to use the baking soda so as to get rid of the stains or the greasy marks. The greasy stains can destroy the look of the leather couch and spread the baking soda and allow it to be there for almost four hours before cleaning it by using the clean cloth.
  • Lemon Juice & Tartar Cream: In order to clean the dark stains the users can use the lemon juice and the tartar cream and to do so they need to mix the equal parts of the tartar cream and the lemon juice in the small bowl and keep on stirring both the ingredients so as to make a fine paste. Then rub the paste over the stained area and allow it to sit there for almost ten minutes before cleaning it with the damp cloth.

Way III- Repairing The Holes And Patches

  • Gather Items: Start by gathering the items like vinyl sub-patch, sandpaper, scissors, super glue, tweezers, hairdryer, flexible glue and block of wood.
  • Superglue: In order to fix up the smaller tears the users can use the superglue and to do so they need to apply the glue over the tear leather piece and then hold it back to its position by using the fingers and keep on holding till the glue gets set up and it holds up the tear altogether. Once the glue is dried the users need to use the fine-grit sandpaper and then rub it over the glued area so as to hide the torn area.
  • Sub Patches: In order to fix up the large holes the users need to use the sub patches and then glue down the sub-patch over the torn area but before that they need to sue the sharp scissors in order to trim the round edges of the sub patch and then position the patch directly into the hole by using the tweezers. Once the patch is glued the users need to wipe away the excess glue and then use the sandpaper so as to smooth down the patched area so that it will look as same as the leather couch.

Way IV- Refinishing The Leather Couch

  • Collect Items: Start by collecting the items like newspaper, microfiber cloth, leather repair compound, leather conditioner, sponges, spray gun and the leather colorant.
  • Lay: Before starting the refinishing process the users need to lay the newspaper or the drop cloth beneath the leather couch so as to protect the floor from the spills.
  • Apply: Then apply the leather repairing compound especially to the worn areas of the leather couch and to do so they need to apply the small amount of the compound directly to the sping and then rub the sponge over the worn areas of the leather couch. Then use the clean cloth to clean up the unneeded compound and then allow the compound to get dried off completely before applying another layer of the compound and then allow it to get dried for almost half an hour followed by another 2 layers of the compound till the users won't achieve their desired look.
  • Leather Colorant: Once the users have applied the leather compound then they need to apply the leather colorant over the entire surface of the leather couch by using the soft sponge and then allow it to get dried off completely before applying another layer of the colorant.
  • Leather Conditioner: In order to keep the couch soft and shiny, the users need to apply the leather conditioner by using the clean sponge. The users are advised to start applying the conditioner at one corner and then work along the entire surface of the leather couch and then allow it to get dried off completely before using the couch.
