Procedure To Repaint The Wood Without Stripping

Painting the wood that has been previously painted can make the job a little bit difficult, this is because of a number of reasons like old finish can impede the new paint’s adhesion. Stripping the old finish helps to remove this problem, but it’s not always the best solution. The user can repaint the wood without stripping by following the below-given procedure:
  1. Wear Protective Gears:
  2. Before beginning the re-staining process, it is necessary to wear protective gears such as eyeglasses and a dust mask in order to protect the user from fumes occurring during the procedure.
  3. Scrape Off Old Finish:
  4. After that, the user needs to Scrape off the old finish that is flaking off the wood by using a paint scraper. The user needs to scrape off the paint in a way so that the underneath wood surface doesn't get damaged.
  5. Clean The Wood With Degreaser:
  6. The next step will be to clean the wood with degreaser applied over the rag. Once all the area is cleaned with degreaser, it is necessary for the user to rinse the cleaner from the wood with a rag dampened in plain water. After that, the user needs to let the wood dry completely.
  7. Apply Primer:
  8. After that, the user needs to apply the oil-based primer over the wood surface. It has been recommended by the experts to apply primer over small areas with a fine-bristle paintbrush and large areas need to be primed with a large paintbrush. The user needs to apply a generous coat of the primer but before applying the primer it is necessary to stir the primer can well by using a stick. Once primed, the user needs to let the primer dry completely before heading to the next step.
  9. Apply Paint:
    The last part of the procedure is to stir the paint can well by using a stick and then apply the first coat of the paint over the wood surface by using roller or paintbrush that depends upon the wood area. Once the first coat of paint dries completely, the user needs to apply a second coat of paint and let it dry overnight.
