The steps are mentioned below for restaining the hardwood floors:

Step 1: Prepare the Work area

  1. Remove Finish: The users first need to remove the existing finish from the floor surface.
  2. Remove Baseboards: Next step is to take away the baseboard trim as performing the sanding with the help of sanding machines may damage the baseboards.

Step 2: Sanding

  1. Type Of Sander: Determine the type of sander that can be used for sanding the hardwood floor surface. A disc sander or a belt sander can be used for sanding. Disc sander is used for sanding wide edges and belt sander is used around the boundary line.
  2. Sand The Floor: For sanding the floor surface the users can start with 60 or 80-grit sandpaper. Sand the floor surface slightly until all the wood is exposed.

Step 3: Staining

  1. Clean The Floor: After sanding the floor the users need to clean the sanded residue particles from the floor surface by using a vacuum cleaner.
  2. Apply Stain: Now apply smooth coats of stain on the floor surface and leave the stain on the floor for about 5 minutes and then remove extra stain from the wood floor surface.

Step 4: Sealing

  1. Let The Floor Dry: After applying the stain, leave the floor to dry for about a day.
  2. Apply Sealant: Then apply a coat of sealant on the floor surface to protect the floor from high traffic and damage.
