How To Replace A Regular Door With A Bifold Door: Step By Step Process To Install A Bifold Door With Door Jamb

Step By Step Process To Install A Bifold Door With A Current Door Jamb

Bifold doors are common in the majority of the homes, due to the reason that they take up less space when open in comparison to a full-sized door. Inexpensive doors are composed of metal or plastic and they usually have weak tracks or rollers that fail, which in turn leads you to believe that all bifold doors have issues. However, this is not true, as a large, solid-wood bifold door having quality hardware can last for a longer time duration like any door as well as work efficiently. You just need to select a good-quality door in the first place. Another advantage of solid doors is that they are easier to trim in order to fit your jambs. In order to install a bifold door with a current door jamb, go through the below-mentioned step by step process carefully:
  1. Measure The Width Of The Space: First of all, calculate & compute the width of the space betwixt your existing door jambs. You need to buy bifold door upper track but make sure that it should be 1/4-inch less than your width. Trim the non-pivot side of the track to 1/4-inch less than the width of your opening with the help of a hacksaw.
  2. Slide The Track Hanger With Wheels Into The Track: Now, move the track hanger smoothly with wheels into the track. Then, move the pivot socket smoothly into the track with the socket to the outside. Calculate & compute 1 inch from the front facing corner of the top jamb. Draw a horizontal center line through the full jamb length. Place the track on the line with the pivot on the side where you are looking to pivot. Secure the track into the top jamb using screws at every screw hole in the track.
  3. Drop Plumb Bob From The Center Of The Track: Next, let or make a plumb bob fall vertically from the center of the track at the pivot location. Move the bracket smoothly underneath the plumb bob in order to make sure that the bottom bracket's pivot is directly aligned with the top pivot. Track down or detect the outline of the bracket on the floor. Fasten the bracket into the floor using the screws. Some types may climb on the floor and jamb. Read & go through the directions of your manufacturer for the exact climbing for your hardware.
  4. Unfold Your Bifold Door: Now, open or spread out your bifold door before calculating the width. Go through the manufacturer's directions carefully when it comes to trimming the door prior to hanging the door. Generally, you will get rid of the material from the hinge sides of the solid doors with the help of a table saw, and remount the hinges. Tap your pivot pins as well as roller into the top and base holes drilled into the ends of your doors. All doors pivot external with the pivots close to the jamb.
  5. Finally, place, fit, or push the pivot pin into the upper track pivot location. Lift up the door before dropping the bottom pin into the bottom bracket. Fit or push the pin into the track-wheel assembly by pressing down on the pin as well as releasing the pin when it is over the opening in the assembly. Adjust the door with the help of the screws on each bracket and assembly.
