The easy steps for installing a replacement garage door opener are mentioned below:

Step 1: Preparing To Install A Garage Door Opener

  1. Assess Type Of Garage Door: Most of the new type of the garage doors which has the multiple horizontal sections must be compatible with an opener. Older types, like those that are only one solid piece, may need to be replaced before installing the opener.
  2. Choose A Garage Door Opener: There are two types of garage door openers, that are chain and belt-driven. Both Of them roughly operate in the same way but only have slightly different parts for operation. A belt-driven opener can be a bit quieter during the operation. This is an important point to consider when making the choice of opener.
  3. Lubrication: Prepare the garage door for the opener installation. Make sure the garage door is properly lubricated and also operating properly.
  4. Electrical Plug: The other important point is to make sure that there is an electrical plug in the right and the immediate area of the opener motor. Usually, they are mounted in the ceiling, facing down. Install one or have one installed by a licensed electrician, if there is not one.

  1. Unplug The Existing Opener: Start the process by turning the power off to the garage at the electric circuit panel. After that unplug the existing garage door opener.
  2. Loosen The Brackets: Lose all the brackets that secure it to the ceiling and then gently lower it down. Loosen the brackets with the help of an open-ended adjustable wrench and remove the bracket that is on the door as well as the bracket above the door.
  3. Install The Bracket: Now in this step the user needs to secure all the brackets which come with the garage door opener, secure over the garage door with the help of the screw gun. Carefully slide the track in the bracket and then secure with the help of a wrench.
  4. Screw The New Motor: In the existing brackets in the ceiling screw the new motor using the wrench. Then connect the lifting arm right from the door to the track.
  5. Wire The Keypad: In the wall on the inside of the garage wire the keypad. Run the wire through the conduit and also connect it with the garage door opener motor. From the outside of the garage, use the screw gun to mount the wireless keypad.
  6. Mount The Electric Eyes: About 6” inch from the floor on the inside of the garage mount the electric eyes. Plugin the motor in the outlet and turn the power back on.
