Ways To Repair Bubble In Wood Veneer

Wood Veneer is a thin layer of real wood that is glued on top of the flooring or furniture surface. Sometimes, the glue can fail and cause a bubble in the wood veneer. There are two different ways to repair the bubble in the wood veneer as mentioned below:

Repair Old Glued Wood Veneer Bubble

In order to repair the old glued wood veneer bubble, the user needs to follow the below-given steps:
  1. Cut A Small Slit:
    The first step will be to cut a small slit in the bubble by using a sharp knife. It has been recommended to cut a slit in the direction of the grain.
  2. Heat The Bubbled Area:
    After that, the user needs to heat the bubble area by placing a towel over the bubble and then place a hot iron on top of the towel or the user can heat the bubble area with a hairdryer. The user needs to heat as small area as possible during the process in order to prevent the large area of glue from softening.
  3. Roll Over The Bubble:
    Once the glue softens, the user needs to roll over the bubble area by using a wallpaper seam-roller or a veneer roller.

Repair New Glued Wood Veneer Bubble

The new glued wood veneer bubble can be repaired by following the below-given steps:
  1. Cut The Bubble:
    The first step will be to cut the bubble in 'X' shape by using a sharp knife. It has been recommended to cut the 'X' as much as possible in alignment to the wood grain.
  2. Scrape The Glue Out:
    After that, the user needs to scrape out as much glue as possible from the underside of the cut with a knife tip.
  3. Apply New Glue:
    The next step will be to apply new glue to the underside of the cut by using a knife.
  4. Roll Over The Bubble:
    After that, the user needs to roll over the bubble by using a wallpaper seam-roller or veneer roller in order to flatten the bubble area.
  5. Weigh Down The Bubble Area:
    The last step will be to wipe away excess glue from the bubble area by using a damp rag. After that, the user needs to lay wax paper over the area and place heavy books over it in order to weigh down the bubble area until the glue dries.
